Default Wow I hate this process

You see the shrink and the doctor and dietician and the physical therapist. You go through tests on you blood and heart and fitness. You get approved by every aspect but not only do you have to wait and see the dietician more because of the insurance. But you get extended one more month because they change the policy of how the approve the surgery. It has been almost 3 months and now probably two more to go before the surgery. I am doing this for multiple reasons and many doctors are pushing for it. It is a shame pencil pushers can delay the medical need. Sorry to vent on my first post but I am not worried about how I will react to the surgery and diet as much as I just want it done.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Amen to every thing you said. They do make it very rough and they should not have you contiune on with more after you have met everything they wanted only to throw you another curve ball. Ride it honey....... its gonna happen for you. Right when you think you cant do it no more then you get another wind to fight.

I agree. I have been approved by everyone, but riding out this "see the nutritionist" for 6 months or better. It is frustrating. And there are days right now where I say I should "give up". But I won't. It is too important to me and I stop and think about how long it took to get to this point in my life. When I look at that way, this is just a small amount of time. And on those days where that viewpoint is in jeporady, I log on to this site and read through the many words of encouragement. Just about everyone here has had some type of a setback while going through the process. It just seems to be par for the course. When I realize that, it takes a bit of the frustration away.

I am right there with both SickNTired and MyTurn, I am doing the 6 month thing too... I am already in the 3rd month, but probably won't have surgery until April, doesn't that add up to more that 6 months??? Last time I checked it did, what a pain. I went to a seminar over 2 years ago, and I put off having the surgery because I didn't want to go through the YEAR period then. Here I am 2 years later, not having done any of what I needed to do. This time, the surgeons office actually has the program, so I am going through them, and the time has reduced down to 6 months now. It is a pain because I feel that I have been researching this for a LONG time and I know where I am at, can't we just get it going now??? I just try to tell myself that it is a time that I can do the things that I need to do to prepare for life after surgery. Like giving up soda or chewing more, not drinking with meals, etc. So, I am half way (according to the REAL 6 month time period at least) and I know that I can do another 3 with no problem. Another thing that you might remember is the last month or 2 will probably fly by since they will be actually getting us ready for surgery. Going to take the tour of the hospital, etc. I am excited about that. I am glad to meet you ladies, since it looks like we are all on the same time line and will be going in for WLS at the same time. I look forward to doing this with you...

I am doing the same thing, my six months will be up in April as well, so you are in good company. As for the tests, I appreciate them, they are just protecting me to make sure I can survive major surgery.
I have a cardiac stress test and NUT appt. this Thursday.
Think that is the end of the testing until the actual pre-op testing and the placement of the filter to prevent blood clots.
Gastric Sleeve, here I come!!!!

Hang in there everyone. All of the hoops you have to jump through are worth it in the end. Deep, slow, calming breaths.

Yes they do take their time, my insurance wouldn't cover the shrink or the nutrition counseling so I got in alot faster.
Good luck.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Good luck with your process.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Yes, it's going slowly right now, but a year from now (and doesn't one year pass by so quicklly, it's almost Christmas, where did this year go ) you will be amazed at where you are, and this past year will seem as if had flown by.
Hang in there, everything will turn out fine.

I agree with what has already been said and hope things will move along in a good pace for you no matter what the paperwork involved.
You will be looking back in a year from now like Doc says and wondering how time went by so swiftly.
Enjoy each day as a new and improved you begins to blossom!
