Default Anyone Get Approved By Tricare Prime?

My PCM referred me to the WL Surgeons at Trippler (our Military Hosital) and I am waiting on a call from the. She said she thinks I would be a good candidate because of high BP Type 2 diabtes and High cholestorol. I was just wondering how hard and how long is the process?
Thanks
Becka

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Beckamarie,

Yes, I am retired from the U.S. Navy and used Tricare Prime insurance for my Lap RNY surgery which was done on 04/26/2006. In the initial counseling class I went to I was told that Tricare Prime is the easiest insurance for them to get authorization from. Once I had done my preliminary consultation, Physch consult, and the Colonoscopy/Endoscopy my surgeon wanted done they submitted my package to Tricare Prime for approval and in was approved in about 5 days. One of the ladies that I work with is in the pre-op process and uses Tricare Prime also. She just got her approval the day after it was submitted. Based on my experience I don't think you will have much trouble getting your approval for RNY, but I have heard that they are not so easy when it comes to the Lap Band procedure. I hope this was helpful to you.

Jerry

I hear that Tricare is one of the easiest insurances to get approved through. Good luck and I hope you get your approval very soon.

Hey sweetie, I was approved through Tricare for my surgery, and it wasn't too bad, but my advice is that if you don't get your referrals back from them in the time they tell you to keep on them about it. Also make sure you have every referral possibly needed to avoid any extra expense. Good luck sweetie.
