Default So sad...excluded

I attended the seminar last night for the surgeries. It was very interesting and I learned alot of information. My dad recently had gastric bypass and is so happy with his results. I was really looking forward to this surgery but I have called our insurance company 3 times now and it says weight loss surgery is excluded. Basically there is nothing I can do to get them to help pay for it, so we would have to pay out of pocket. My husband wants to support me and does, but I do not think we can swing the extra $250-$300 a month payment, plus all the money we would have to pay upfront before the surgery even took place. I really had my heart set on this and I do not think we will be able to make it possible. Stupid insurance.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

(((((((hugs))))))) I know it seems impossible right now, but don't give up on your hopes. There are possibilities to set up really good financial assistance through the medical centers, and even some insurances that have changed their policy and started to allow surgery when they never used to. Changes can happen and things can come up at any time, that might completely change your dilemma.
So don't give up. Hang in there, and in the meantime while you are contemplating and trying to make a way financially, start working on what things YOU can do physically and mentally right now, so that when time does come around and you do find a way to get surgery paid, you will be good and ready for it. There is alot of things you can do now to help you later.....

You have my best wishes. Stick around, this is a grand support group site, and there is a ton of information and success stories shared, to help get you hyped up and keep you hyped up as you prepare for your new future.

Don't give up!! New Hampshire just made it mandatory that all insurance companies be forced to add it to their policies for coverage. Maybe it will happen in your state soon.

My BMI was borderline for approval but since I had high blood pressure and sleep apnea it went through. Does your insurance deny all wls proceedures under all circumstances? Might be worth talking to your doctor about.

if it IS possible to set up payments and do all that up front, do it! I had to wait nearly 9 full months before surgery and think about it..some in Canada have a mandatory waiting period of 2YEARS!

It's not something you just decide and do...it would be worth it knowing that you paid for it yourself for YOU and made it through..but in the meantime start researching your insurance company and see if it is an across the board OR if there ARE circumstances they will pay for it.

Nope they said it's excluded so and even with a dr referral they will not cover it. It's just such bull, apparently they would rather pay for future problems.

Thanks! Dh and I are going to sit down tomorrow and see what we can come up with. Our insurance is an HSA (health savings account), so we could pay our monthly bill (or part of it) from that, but we wouldn't have anything left in there for regular dr and dentist appointments, ect. We shall see, I am really hoping DH and I can make this work into our budget.

NEVER give up, where there's a will, there's a way.
It may not be there in the immediate future, but if you give up, it will never be in your future. Even if it takes a couple of years, work on reverting the insurance situation if you must.
