Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default excited canadian

hi all,

i just stumbled upon this link, and am encouraged by the posts that say that OHIP will cover this surgery outside of canada. I am wondering if it's covered in canada if i am willing to make the driver to ottawa or toronto instead of the states... i am in ontario, about an hour and a half from niagara falls, so it's not like it's not an option to go to the states, however i guess there's just something in my head about going to another country to have the surgery done...i dont mean any offence at all by that comment, and please dont turn this into a canada vs the states debate, it's merely the thought of going outside of canada, and i guess the whole idea of the surgery is scary too... are there more benefits of going to the states than staying in canada to have it done?

People often consider the states because they fast track you whereas there is more of a wait in Canada. The good news is that Canada has just put more $ into bariatrics in Canada. If your bmi is 40 or above (or 35 with significant health problems) you qualify for the surgery in Canada. Just get a referral from your doctor to either the misgroup (MIS Group) or to Dr. Misra or Dr. Anvari in Hamilton. That's it. Email me privately if you need any more questions answered or visit my website

I am canadian. I live in New Brunswick. I was approved by medicare for wls in Nov. 07. Have had initial consult with surgeon and went last week and signed surgical consents. Now am waiting for a surgery date. Both the RNY and the lap band including band itself is covered in this province. Also once you have lost all of your weight the lower belly skin flab (tummy tuck) is covered for removal if you have a medical reason. If you want any other skin removed or lifted, you must self pay.
