Question Getting started

Hello I'm new here. I am waiting until I get my insurance in February, just wondering how long it usually takes for the whole process to be done until the surgery. Any advice and support would be great, I wish I didn't have to wait until February This is going to be a long process with hopefully a great outcome.

thanks everyone.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi and welcome to our family!! First if you don't mind please fill in your stats, you can do this by going to the top of the page and click on user cp I had to do a six month supervised diet for my insurance requirements plus some other things. All insurance requirements are different and I called mine and made sure what all was needed and so did my surgeons nurse. After all the requirements were met and paperwork faxed it took about 2 weeks to be approved and 3 days later I had surgery My advice would be research and read,read,read...I wish I had found this site before my surgery, there is so much information here and very helpful people Good luck on your journey!!

Hey there and welcome to the site!! I had to go through 3 months of supervised weight loss and attend a couple of nutritional classes. After completing that it took some time for me bc i had to light fire under the staffs butts bc they kept on losing paperwork and not submitting things when they were supposed to. But once all of that was handled i could have gotten mu surgery 2wks later but i had to opt what was best for my schedule which was the following month. Good luck on your journey!!

I started my actual process in July with an orientation at my weight loss center. I had to do 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. I had to see my PCP, nutritionist, and counselor within a week of each other for 3 months. I had to do a psych eval and attend 3 support group meetings as well. My weight loss center's staff was outstanding and really got me thru the process quickly. It depends on whether or no you have any required dr supervised weight loss. Check with your insurance company to see what their requirements are. As mentioned before, read, read read!
Good luck and hang in there! the waiting game is hard, but it will be worth it!!

I had to go to a seminar first, then the 6 month supervised diet, psych eval, nutritionist, diet and exercise classes. About 4 months in I had my first surgeon's visit, then another before surgery. My insurance took forever to approve, but no real reasons why it tool 7 weeks instead of their normal 2. But once approved, I got my date for 2 months later. Start to finish, was just shy of a year.

It seems like forever when you are first starting out, but take the time to make as many behavior modifications between now and surgery and it will be so much easier after surgery.

Good luck
