| How did you track all weightloss attemps pre-op
I have been asked before what are some of the diet programs I had attempted in the past. I am sure that it is going to come up again during my classes and dr visits. I have started to put some of my attempts down on paper and boy am I having to rack my brain because there have been so many. Did any of you have to actually document these and what was expected for information. Thanks in advance for your help.

I had to document this for my initial dr's appt. They wanted to make sure that this wasn't my first attempt at losing weight. Surgery is very serious and they want to make sure you've tried several times.
Some insurances also require the documentation - luckily, mine didn't. I gave rough estimates - I was able to tell them my Weight Watchers attempts pretty well as I still had the books, but the rest was pretty much an estimate.
Good luck!

I had to document all attempts over 20 plus years to my surgeon then had to do a six month medically supervised diet per insurance requirement

I started in high school and put it all in a spreadsheet with what I did, how long and what my results were. Needless to say, I had several pages of tries.

Ok honey. If they reqire it...... and if your Dr has it down they have that on record. Now as far as your attempting it....... you can write it down as a rough estimate or even if you attempted it at WW or what ever they even have records of it. Now i didnt have to go get a record of me ever going I give them a rough estimate of it and they took mine as to as I did it. Now when they review it....... Most (smart) people are gonna know you didnt put on this weight in just a couple month or 6 months or even the last 2 years. Its been put on over a series of years. Its all in regards to your insurance company and how they have your policy written.
My suggestion is this...... Call your insurance company. Ask them if you have coverage to cover the surgery. Then.....ask what requiremtents you have to meet to have it done. Write them all down so your not suprised later so you can get all your ducks in a row. I have seen some be shocked when a Dr tells them your insurance requires you to do a diet for so long or they require this or that....... and they get so upset but if its in the policy its gotta be done so your not shocked ok? If they are familuar with the insurance more than likely they already know what they are facing and tell you ahead of time before they even call for a authrozation to have it done.
Upon calling Make sure you get a name of the person your talking to. If they dont seem nice when they anwser the phone just hang up. Wait a couple mins and call back 99 percent of the time you will get another person . Yes I have did that. It depends on the time of day you call also belive it or not on how willing they are to help you. I like calling about 10 am they are at work and have been there a bit and in routine. Wends - Fridays are good days to call and talk. I never call anyone on a Monday LOL. I hope it helps. Dont stress yourself out over this ok. Just make the call write it down and go from there. Any thing you can get on your side is a great help and then again you may not have to do anything what so ever......its all gonna depend on your policy and how its written. GOOD LUCK!

I worked for a managed care organization and we just required a statement from the doctor with what attempts had been made, but every insurer is different. I had to go through a 6 month "coaching" program prior to my surgery...It was called " I Can Change" and all it did was hold up my surgery as they don't promote GBS, they like lap band, so none of the coaching was geared towards my surgery, and then of course they try to talk you out of it after you finish.

My biggest advantage to providing some form of documentation was having the same wl doctor see me 10 years later after I did not go on his program, give me a letter of recommendation for the insurer to have the surgery done.
Kind of a neat move if you ask me. I see a wl specialist and don't go on his reduced diet / medication program and then 10 years later see him when I weigh more and he recommends me for surgery at my request after once I again refuse to go on his program.
Be creative.
If you don't ask, you won't receive!
