I just got my total bill today for surgery- luckily my insurance covered it, because it was $62,000! I cannot imagine coming up with that kind of money- and I am so thankful insurance covered it.
To anyone working on that piece, keep trying! I know it costs a lot to insurance but they are smart enough to know the cost of long term obesity would be much higher!

WOW... that was a pretty price tag.
I am curious to read what the surgery costs was from others. Maybe we could include the state that you are in, just as a comparision against the regions???
My surgery will be done at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan.
No estimate yet on the cost. My out of pocket will be 1750.00

Well Because I Had Lots Of Complications, Etc Mine Was Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Over $100,000. Thats One Risky Thing About Paying For This Surgery On Your Own. If You Have Compications You Are Really Going To Have To Pay!!!1 Thank God It Didnt Cost Me One Penny. No Copay, Nothing!!!

Well when I got my bill it was 26,000 from the hospital and 8,000 from the surgeons and then I found out from the insurance company that it was not covered 100% that weight loss surgery was only covered 80% and I have to pay 20% of the total costs I got my bill from the surgerons office and it was 3,900. I think the hospital portion was covered 100% though. But I would not have changed a thing would still get it done.

i had mine done in NY. i have no complications and my bills totalled 75k with $0 out of pocket. and to answer the question about why the cost varies: because healthcare in the US is big business and it's full of crap lol. there is no reason why all of ours shouldnt cost the same...
