Pizza...Without the Pounds
Ryan Benson's portobello pizza delivers lots of Italian flavor without the diet dangers.

A former "closet" junk food eater, Ryan Benson has learned to find fresh, healthy alternatives to his usual binge foods. This quick, hearty pizza uses portobello mushrooms instead of a traditional crust--saving you calories and cutting down on carbs.

Ingredients:
4 whole portobello mushroom caps (about 5" each), stemmed removed
1/2 cup low fat marinara sauce
1/2 cup lean turkey Italian sausage, cooked, drained and crumbled
4 tablespoons shredded fat free or low fat mozzarella cheese
2 teaspoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil

To Prepare:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Wipe the mushrooms clean of any dirt. Place them on a baking sheet, gill side up. Spoon sauce over each cap, then sprinkle on sausage and cheeses. Place in the oven and bake for 6 to 8 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Garnish with fresh basil. Serve immediately.

Yield: 4 small pizzas

Serving Tip: Pair one pizza with a cup of vegetable soup and you've got a fiber-rich, satisfying lunch.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Wow Chuppy..........you are full of great ideas today.

I made an appetizer like this........portobello mushroom topped with slice of eggplant, tomatoe, and moz cheese. Yummy. I will try this one, too. Thanks pal.

okay so just an idea, but something I discovered when I was doing south beach is to make a fake crust out of german pancake batter with garlic salt and italian seasonings mixed in...I would bake it for awhile until it was firm...then add my toppings. Since the german pancake is mostly eggs it was high in protein and low in carbs. If you are really interested I can try to find the recipe for the german pancakes later. German pancakes are also good with a little bit of lemon juice and splenda for breakfast type food, or with sugar free maple syrup. My hubby even liked my german pancake inspired pizza, so that says a lot...lol.

OKAY i have a good recipe that i want to share from my ATKINS days...
I truthfully dont see anything in it that would be harmful too a weight loss surgery person other then we proly couldnt eat a whole one LOL

MOCK DANISH:

use 1-2 eggs
1-3 ounces of cream cheese (lowfat)
1-2 packets of sweetner of choice (splenda)
flavor of choice I use anything from 1/4t cinnamon, 1/4t extracts, and even chili powder if I make a lunch one. You can leave out the sweetener and use herbs for a savory one to go with a salad.

you can hide some flax seed meal 2-3T in here for added fiber if you need it or want it.

soften the cream cheese in a microwavable bowl in the microwave for 15-20 sec.

Mix flavor and sweetner into the cream cheese if you want icing take out some of the mixture.

add egg and flax if using. mix leaving a little lumpy.

nuke 1-3 min depending on your microwave and how dry you want it.

Ice if you wanted too and eat. Be careful not to burn your mouth as it is hot. it will be more bread like if you use the flax seed meal.

carbs are
.6 per egg
1 per packet of sweetener
depending on cream cheese brand 1 or 2 per ounce used.
flavorings carbs will depend on what you use.
flax seed meal carbs for 2T is .78 net carbs on fitday.

enjoy
