Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Sorry I should have answered this question earlier but God knows how much I was really busy and stressed out last week because of this scholarship thing I hope things will get done this week inshallah.

OK back to your question, you know that my surgeon hasn't told me that fasting is forbidden or something although thanks for alerting me to that it's not good to keep our new pouch empty for long hours I will have this checked out with him soon.

But you know when I had gastric banding back in 2000 I fasted Ramadhan without a problem at all, in fact I lost the biggest chunk during the Ramadhan right away after my surgery.

Wow Lisa you impressed me how do you know that Ramadhan is very soon and coming hehehehhe. Islamic calender year is a lunar year who told you that this month is close by?!

This year, Ramadhan will be a bit unique, I'll fast the whole month (inshallah) away from my home town and the family. Will start and end in UK
Ramadhan is the muslims holy month we fast from dawn time till sunset time. We increase our prayers and worships to Allah, this month is a mercy coz it teaches all muslims how the poor people are feeling in their poverty struggle. We also pay donations (Zakat) to help poor people and that's basically the whole idea of Ramadhan to get us all in equilibrium infront of our creator Allah all his mighty and nothing varrys us from each others except our good actions we make.

Ramadhan is also known in my culture as the month of close social relationships, people get closer to their families and their parents. If anybody has hard feelings towards anyone, this month is a great opertunity to rinse all these negative feelings aways and fix all the burned briges and build them all over again. This is what breaks my heart, that I will fast and celebrate Eid Al-Ad-ha (the end of the month feast) away from my parents and siblings this will happen for the 1st time in my entire life!!
it feels as bad as if you guys miss the thanks giving or chirtmas away from the family

This Ramadhan also will be even more unique coz the day time will be longer in UK! I heard that the sun sets around 10:00PM (usually it's around 5:00-6:00PM in Kuwait time) which will make my fasting day longer!! I will be also out at school doing all kind of mental and physical activities while I'm fasting!! Aaaahhhhh it will be a big challange but for the sake of being comply with God's orders everything will be with his will fairly easy!!!

I hope I have answered your question dear Lisa, and please feel free to ask me anything about my religion or culture

Love ya

As well as food, you should ask your surgeon about liquids. Due to your body's new plumbing, it probably isn't wise to go long hours without water, and you need to take care of not becoming dehydrated, which can happen easily. If it were for a day or two, it might not matter, but since it's a month, you shouldn't take the chance of anything happening to your health.

Thanks DocSanae,

ALthough Islam is a very forgiving and understanding religion, God gave ill people the excuse not to fast during Ramadhan as long they're sick and re-fast the days when they're healthy again. But I won't be sick for one day or so, I'll have to skip the whole month which is unlikely idea for me personally!
I fully agree that we get dehydrated while fasting, but I will make it when I breakfast I will have as much liquid as I could.

I will ask my surgeon anyway, thanks for being concerned

THANK YOU HANADI i do know a great deal about RAMADAN from my dear friend Jaoaud....so I thought of you during this time.
I know you fast all thru sunrise hours and feast at sunset i just concern
knowing how small our pouches are that that meal will be so small for you being we eat such small amounts. I do know he told me pregnant women and sometimes elderly and the ill are exempt from fasting for health reasons I just didnt know how safe it is for you to go and go on not enough food and protein for the month.
I know its traditional in his family to get up early before sun up and gather for a meal and then fast till sunset.....so please be sure your not depriving
your body during that time. ITS going to be even harder for you in another
country that the majority is not observing such times.
I think the ocasion is beautiful! I imagine water is acceptable during the fasting hours so you dont dehydrate???
HUGzzzzzzzzzzz

HUGSSS Lisa hehehehehe fasting should be no food, no water, no other drinks, no smoking, no Sex hehehehehe

Some scholars go to the extent that anything that is a leisure (not a life or death deal) like perfume, no make up, hmmm can't think of another example is also a fast breaker and should not be approached during fasting hours.

Love you all. How lucky I am to have you all concerned friends worrying about me fasting this years Ramadhan

Hanadi...my religion encourages fasting for 24 hours once a month...Traditionally the first sunday of the month. We call it Fast Sunday and that day at church instead of there being speakers at the pulpit, they leave it open for members of the church to come up and bear their testimony of their relationship with Christ and God. We are asked to start the fast the night before with a prayer of what we are wanting or needing in our lives or the lives of someone dear to us, and then we are asked to end the fast with a prayer also. We believe that when we do this, it draws us nearer to the spirit and makes us more focused on our prayers. Sometimes if there is someone in my family in need of an extra blessing, my father will call a family fast and everyone will fast and pray for that member on the same day. I have seen this tradition bring together people on behalf of each other and think the symbolism behind it is beautiful. We are also asked to take the money we would use to eat during that time or as much as we feel we can afford and donate it as a fast offering. That money is then collected and given to help the needy and the poor. We also have the belief that if someone has a health reason that it would not be wise to do this, that they can still recieve the blessings of it through prayer, meditation, and simply cutting back to the neccessary amounts needed. But yes, when we fast we are supposed to go without drinking also. I used to hate it when I was younger, but now I see the purpose behind it. I think it is admirable that you have such a testimony in this belief of your faith and that you are willing to share it with us. I hope that many blessings come upon you and your family that they might know that your thoughts and heart are with them. Be carefull, sweetie, but only you can decide what is right for you.
Janae
