I decided to be daring and sent my family my 7 month before and after pictures. (I usually only share those things with you all!)

My Dad lives in Colorado and has not seen me since surgery. He is in extremely poor health- mainly due to obesity. I am totally from my Dad's side of the family- he was a football linebacker, big guy, big legs, and I look just like his sisters. (My Mom on the other hand is a tiny little thing barely over 100 pounds- seriously, people don't believe me when I say we are related!) My Dad is also a gruff kinda guy- doesn't express a lot of feelings.

All this background is setting it up for my biggest wow..........he called me today (he never calls- always waits for me to, so I was a little worried something was wrong at first!).

He said he got the email and he didn't recognize that it was his daughter. He said he cried, and went on and on about how happy he was for me and how proud he was I made this decision and that he wishes he could do it too. (He can't have WLS) He even said I was "hot" (yes, hot!), and that he was mad at my brother for not telling him in more detail how great I looked.

It was surreal- I cried, even imagining my Dad would cry that I lost weight. He is the only one in my family that even remotely gets it, since he is the only one that has struggled with weight like I have. It felt amazing, and it was so nice to hear "I am proud of you" from my Dad since those just aren't things he says often, and I know when he says it, it's true and from his heart.

wow KB what a great WOW moment.

I know exactly what you mean I have the same shape/kind of dad. He's also conservative and doesn't express his feeling. I'm his first kid and as long as I remember I was always striving for his WELDONE look and truly I didn't see it before I've lost weight.

Ahhh finally, our dads are proud of us!

Ok, that made the hair on my arms stand up! I have been keeping myself away from my dad until I can see him in person. I am the same as you...taking after my dad, with the exception of his height! He has always brought it to my attention that I could lose some weight, even though he def could himself!

Ok.......first thing this morning Im sitting here with my first cup of coffee and tears running down my face from reading your WOW moment. How wonderful.......I did not tell my mom for 1 yr after my surgery. I was afraid of the negative feedback I would get. She told my daughter how happy she was for me for doing this (she always struggled also and I got it from her)....BUT she never told me.......I would have given anything to hear it from her........So your story hit home...........Im so happy for you that your dad gave you that gift............

I wish my mom could see me now (though everyone says she can).....I would love the chance to share this with her.....my dad is REALLY proud of this, but I miss being able to share it with mom...she was my inspiration for this anyway...

That is wonderful. You have a stunning mug, IMO, fat or not. I am sure some of that is Dad's.

Isn't it amazing what influences our dads create for us women regarding weight? I watch that show "Intervention" and on the food obsession shows (bulimia, anorexia, binging, etc), there is always something a dad said when the girl was young that mixed up her head "forever". I hear my DH tell our pudgy DD something and I think to myself, "That'll cost a decade of therapy later." It isn't cruel what he says...it is just how something is said to her about her weight. You know what I mean.
