Way back when, as Viet Nam was winding down, we were nearing the end of basic training. Our drill sergeant (in the manner of drill sergeants the world over) found a way to motivate us to do well on the mile run for our physical fitness test. He took off his combat boots and put on sneakers, then he picked up his rifle, fixed a bayonet on it, told us that the test standard was 6:00 minutes, and he thought we should all finish in less than that because he could run the mile in 5:45 and he'd be right behind us. It worked, too! I don't think he had to stab more than 2 or 3 slowpokes, either!!
I haven't really run since then. I might start again when the spring thaw gets done.
How's it feel to not have that running partner on your back now, Scott? 127 pounds makes a big difference!!
