My main motorcycle is a cruiser. It felt pretty good before I had the surgery, even if it was a trifle gutless with that big fat guy on it (no more, though!!) The seating position is fairly upright, with the foot pegs in line with the shoulders and butt so my feet can support some of my body weight. There are highway pegs installed forward on the crash bars for a more laid-back posture, though.
At the end of the last riding season, as I was just at goal, I was having problems with the seat even driving just the 30 miles to work. There was no way to get comfy on it, and it's hard squirming in pain at 65 in a cross-wind!

I thought I'd at least have to re-upholster the seat or maybe even change bikes. It was tough!! Trying to use the highway pegs put way too much weight on my butt, which, with no padding, was talking to me in CAPITAL LETTERS!!
This weekend I got the bike out again. The doc finally cleared me to ride again after my shoulder surgery, so I wasn't about to waste one of the 5 sunniest days of the year!! A short test ride felt okay, so today I rode it in to work. As I was driving along, it felt right. Like the world was in balance, and I was in harmony with my machine. I stuck my feet out and put them on the highway pegs, and they felt like they belonged! My butt was just fine with the whole idea, and never raised a peep about it!
Last year I weighed the same as I do this year. I don't think there's been a major shift of upholstery back there. At this weight, there isn't a lot of surplus to shift anyway! So what changed? I know I didn't add anything to the seat!
I have noticed that I don't notice the problem of posterior padding, or lack thereof, nearly as much as I did last year. I've given Peanut my good tailbone pillow, and don't miss it. I must have developed callouses back there or something!
Anyone else find that the problems of sore sitting seem somehow smaller with the passage of time? I don't know what it is, but I sure approve!! I'm thinking that next month I may be able to ride to the Cities and back (160 miles round trip) for my state committee meetings.
There is no down side to this surgery!! My hair grew back, and now I can even sit for extended periods on an unpadded backside!! Let the good times roll!!
