Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello, I am new to this site....and also 2 1/2 weeks post surgery. I'm wondering if anyone else had such a hard time with the pureed foods? I am making myself sick just by looking at it and then proceed to choke on the food. I am getting less in me now then the first 2 weeks. Any suggestions? I do plan on calling the dietician's office today. Thanks! Ksummer19 |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello and Welcome and congrats. on your surg.! I could not do the pureed stage at all either. You should always check with your surg. first and foremost, but, as for me I just didnt do any in the blendered foods "ew" I did stage 1 and 2 babyfoods,SF puddings and cottage cheese and cheese sticks and that kinda stuff. We all are diff. esp. after this surg. so do what you can and try not to stress, lol easier said than done. Kathy

As far as I know, just about everyone has had a tough time at one time or another, if not throughout, the puree stage. You're not alone, and you're quite normal in what you are feeling right now. Check out the threads in Stupid Questions and in Gastric Bypass Diet, you'll find plenty of threads and posts stating the same kind of feelings you are having now. Also check out the Gastric Bypass Recipes forum, you may be able to find something that will tide you over.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had a very hard time in the beginning also. The protein puddings came in so handy and I did lots of protein shakes and cottage cheese at the beginning and once I was far enough out and the dietician gave me the go ahead, I ate so much chili becasue that settled with me the best early out. I have so many flavors of shakes and that really helped me. What I do now is mix the protein shake in a little bit of cold water and then I take another cup and use some hot water and mix my sugarfree hot coco and then I pour the hot coco into the shake and then add enough hot water to fill the cup. My cups are pretty big and I measured mine they hold two cups. But I only make it hot enough so it is comfortable to drink becasue if it gets to hot I am afraid of killing off the protein and this works so good for me and is so delicious. These are the flavors I use in my sugarfree hot coco, Taffee, cho. peanut butter, vanilla and cho. mint. So this gives me four flavors and I drink whatever flavor I want that day. Plus I got some other flavors that I use with milk and would not taste good with the hot coco. This sure gives me a boost of protein when I am short for the day and is sooo yummy. The protein pudding have 22 proteins and 2 carb. in one can. I ate my cottage cheese mostly with sugar free jello mixed in the cottage cheese and carb free whipped cream from a can and I ate that alot at the beginning. I also ate alot of veg. soup at the beginning also. I was so limited because my stomach could not handle anything else. The pureed trays they gave me from the hospitol I was suppose to eat for about two weeks, well my outdoor cats got that I only ate one and a half from another tray the cats got the rest, I gagged on them so bad that I almost threw up from that and i just figured that it was not worth it and I called my nutritionist and told me that was ok if I did what I wanted too. I threw up on chicken and tunna gagged me and I also threw up on some of the canned fish, so I gave up all fish in a can and I still cannot stand the fish in a can or tuna but I am eating chicken now and it took me a long time before I could eat chicken. I know exactly what you mean about food this early but as time goes by it will get much easier with food. I still have a little trouble with a few food but is better than before and it will get much better in a few months for me. So just give it time and you will like food again, so try to get in the protein as best as you can and sip sip so you do not get dehydrated. I just remembered that I posted a recipe in the food forum and it is called cheese kuchen and that should work for you now and it is so delicious and tastes more like a desert and is loaded with protein. And another one I just thought of is using sugar free jello and adding fat free cream cheese into the jello. That also gives you protein and is yummy. Just expeirment with recipes that fit you the best. I hope things get better for you soon and food tastes will come back a little later on. Welcome to the board and will be nice getting to know you with your posts. Welcome to the losers side of the bench.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thank you all...it has been a very tough and long weekend. I've been very frustrated and depressed. The scale is not moving and I am eating less. My surgeons office has their own web-site and support group however there are only 138 members and only 2 were on all weekend. I think this is going to be a great site for me. I need more than 2 on my support them. Family and friends try to help but they have NO clue what is going on. Thanks again! K |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ksummer You Have To Understand Hun You Just Had The Surgery And Your Body Is Trying To Heal Itself So Your Body Will Hold On To Its Own Fat In This Process Which Is Very Normal. Also When We Eat To Little The Body Will Stall And Hold On To Its Own Fat. So What You Are Going Thru With The Scale Now Is Sooo Normal. Dont Worry It Will Move Again!!! I Went Thru The Same Thing. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | First off I'd like to say welcome! I had my surgery a few days after you and I'm on the puree stage right now. So far for the most part I'm handling it ok. I'm very sensitive to certain foods and I have to remember to slow myself down. The biggest change for me is I used to be a BIG time morning eater and now if I eat or drink anything but clear liquids the first 2 hours after I'm up I get real nauseous. My scale has stalled too, so that does suck, but I've heard so much on here about that happening that I'm not overly concerned. I can't stomach protein drinks at anytime throughout the day, so getting my protein in is tough. Since I can only eat little bits, all I eat is protein and I try for 4x's a day, plus special K protein water (hey every little bit helps!). Right now I only have to aim for 40-60, so I'm getting there. I hope you've been able to contact someone from your doc or nut office. Keep us posted! P.S. You'll love it here!!!!!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello and Welcome! I'm 4 weeks post op and things are getting a little better. Everyone goes through the same thing...the puree stuff makes you gag, the protein shakes make you gag, you almost would prefer to just not eat! But it does get better and coming here and reading what everyone else went through and what they did to make it work not only helps but also gives you peace of mind when you see you are not alone or different. Most important, get your protein in, even if it has to be from sources that are not regular food, like those bullets (vitamin shop) they are liquid, about 4 ounces, add a little water, no carbs, 42 gram of protein, couple different flavors. They have some that are 25 grams of protein too. And fluids! Skim plus milk (fluid AND 8 grams of protein per cup), floavored water (just watch the carbs), V8 juice, cup-o-soup creamy chicken, ferina made soupy w/skim plus (maybe even add just a spoonful of no sugar added apple sauce), fat free-sugar free pudding mix made with skim plus (every time you use skim plus you are getting a little protein). Then as time goes by try something, one thing at a time, as long as it's soft and/or chewed well, soft low fat cheeses, dannon lite and fit (they are fat free), creamy soups - campells makes a few that are lower fat. Take it slow, just concentrate on protien and fluids right now. As each week passes you'll be able to vary things and add new foods and textures, and then veggies and then even fruit. Good luck. |
