| Newbie | Hi, I've just found this page, and I'm enjoying reading everything so far! My name is Anna, and I am scheduled for a lap RNY on August 1st with Dr. Michael Nusbaum in West Orange, NJ. I am nervous, anxious about finishing all of my testing, and excited to start from scratch without all the excess weight bogging me down. I am married to the true love of my life (15 years!), and we have three daughters, ages 14, 5, and 1. This is am amazing and exhilarating journey, and I hope I am doing everything right! Anna |

| Newbie | Thank you, Lisa, for the nice welcome! I don't know how many questions I have at this stage, but I am anticipating a boat load of them after August 1st! I think the biggest thing I want to know is how I will "feel". I've heard horror stories of people just being sick from the time they have the surgery and never feeling well again. I so don't want that. I have about 150 pounds to lose, and with every diet, that seems like such an insurmountable obstacle. I hope I have finally found the right tool to get me where I need to go. Thanks again for the very warm welcome! Anna |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | HEY ANNA! YES you will have questions. AND its a big decision to make to go for this surgery. BUT i know for me i feared at 310 lbs i was a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen. I had no energy or strength and needed this so i could keep up with my 3 small kids ages 12,9, and 3. I had my surgery JUNE 1 2005, i have lost to date 143 lbs. I have energy feel great and wished I had done this sooner. I went from size 30/32 in fasion bug clothes being to snug and not long enough to wearing size 8 !!! I never was this size in my life so its amazing. I had no complications. I do follow all the rules for protein getting in my 70 grams a day. I made sure i drank plenty and kept my carbs way down and I lost very fast and steadly. I had no complications after surgery. I have a few food intoerlances but for the most part it doesnt bother me at all to throw up sometimes and stay away from a few foods. I have no luck with left over proteins, salad and tomatoes and chinese takeout (but i try it over and over ). I am so happy and feel great. PEOPLE dont even recognize me. AND for me this has saved my life and my birthdefect of never getting full has been fixed. ITS not all easy and came with some tuff things along the way but it was well worth it all. HUGZ lisa xoxoxo

| Newbie | I hope I'm not clogging the thread up with this stuff! If I'm in the wrong place, just let me know! Did you have a plan to exercise going in to the surgery? And what did you start out with? I am mortified to walk into a gym right now, and I'm not sure if that's where I should be or if I should just start walking and see where that leads me. It sounds like you've done everything the right way! It is funny to hear you say that "birth defect" of never getting full! I have the same thing, and no one understands it. My husband is 300 pounds, and I can eat him under the table. He always brings home doggie bags, and I eat everything in sight, and usually finish his before the next day. That's always been embarassing to me ![]() We have 3 daughters, and I was no where near this size when my oldest was small. I truly feel like I'm doing the other two kids a disservice by being so fat. They deserve the mom who gets on the floor, runs in the yard, isn't afraid to put a swim suit on. You're really an inspiration - we've got a few things in common, and I hope to duplicate your success!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well before surgery i was going to my LADIES express gym here in town. ITS the only kind of gym i would walk into at that size. ITS other women in my age group and size so i was going. IT wasnt helping at my large size. ONCE i had surgery i wasnt cleared to return to the gym till SEPTEMBER ( surgery was june 1 ). SO i was getting tot he gym 4 times a week thru the next months. NOW that its summer i cant get there. AND im slacking in this area. I also bought at kmart a tony littles gazelle which i do when i can. I also sit on a huge excersie ball at my computer instead of a chair and that tones your legs and butt while your typing away. HOPE that helps and feel free to ask anything! and chit chats are great in the threads and what the boards are all about. ITs a little quiet in the forums with the holiday weekend, but im sure before long many will be introducing themselves to you! hugz lisa xoxox

5' 6" Height: | Hi Anna, Nice to meet you. This is a great place to come for support and advice. I had RNY 5/17. It will be 7 weeks on Wed. I can hardly believe it! I'm down 36lbs. as of yesterday. My experience so far has been like Lisa only I haven't barffed yet. My Dr. has me on soft/puree till I see him again in Aug. I didn't exercise at all before surgery but started walking immediatly after. I just got back from a 1.5 mile walk. I started for 10 min. a day and kept building. If I had to do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I'd probably start the walking before and try and loose a few lbs. ahead of time. Otherwise, cool is the rule!! Good luck in your pre-op testing. Hope to see you hanging out here. I think lots of people are gone for a long weekend. Usually lots more action. Hope this helped, Kat |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Wow...you have found the right place. My name is Deborah, I'm 37 - 5'7" and started off at 333.8. I had a Lap RNY on April 19th 2006...so I am just about 2.5 mos post op. (I stopped counting weeks...I don't know when I stopped that - ha!) Anyway...I've lost nearly 59#...and am feeling soooo wonderful! I had really bad Edema in my legs and feet...and that is gone. I had a severe sleep apnea...and that is gone- hubby says I am only breathing hard no more snoring at ALL!! WOW. I just went shopping for a new pair of black pants and fit in a 22W!!! WOW...this is 10 sizes difference....I was sooooo amazed. I really didn't think that they would fit...and it was perfect. I tried on the 24W first...and way too big!!! ~ I've never been soooo thrilled! WHOOO HOOOOO.... Love this....it's great to meet you Anna...can't wait to get to know you more...Welcome.
