Hi all

congrats for those of you who have had your surgery and goodluck to those waiting. I had my surgery in July of 2007 with no complications, but I have been feeling a little bit alone on this journey ...I live on a military post about 120 miles from the nearest support group and my MD. I am a nurse so alot of stuff I was not totally clueless about but so many things just have to experience to believe!!!!! I have spent most of today reading your recipes, insights, feelings, and I hope that I am no longer alone. Because I live so far from my MD to get the procedure I only had to do the lab work, x-rays, psych eval and then there I was 1 month from my deciding that I needed to do something FOR my life and I was done. It has been a shocker. I trully have been blessed to not have any major issues....but I have so many questions and while my MD does spend time with me when I see him( Some times over and hour) that is or (I hope) has been my only source of information, I usually see him every 3 months. I was surprised to read about 3 month labs because I am going Monday to get my first post op labs done....thanks for listening to me vent

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations!!! Your weight loss is wonderful, so close to goal already!!!
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

About nutrition and intake, how/what did your surgeon instruct?
How much protein, how much water.
The norm is 60g protein per day, 64oz water/fluids per day, though they may vary some, depending on the surgeon.
If you are getting in enough protein as is, then no need to do the protein shakes and drinks. If your protein intake is low, then supplementing it with protein supplments is one way to do it, another choice is, since you're already more than 6 months out, take inventory of what you are eating, and up your protein intake from regular food.
As for blood work, around 6 months out isn't that bad, some surgeons don't give out the order until the 6 month check up. This again varies with the surgeon.

I guess I have really been bad because I haven't been keeping track of how much I've been eating or drinking...I know when I am drinking hot tea that I usually do about 64 oz but some times I do as low as...( thinking) 4-6 oz ..as far as proteins I try to eat as much of it as I can but it depends a great deal on how I am doing on a day to day basis...sometimes I do alot of fruit and cheese...sometimes alot of meat type stuff. I have a real hard time eating things like chicken or hamburger...it just doesn't sit well I do good with steak as long as it is rare it makes it easier to chew it up enough to keep it comfortably down. Today I had seasoned laver for breakfast ( korean compressed seaweed) and hot tea, skipped lunch and for dinner an orange. Sometimes I get really witchy if I don't eat...is an emotional response normal?
