| Back for more with a question about "Dumping Syndrome." Does "Dumping Syndrome" get better with time, or am I going to be stuck with it forever? It sucks!!! Is it just from over-eating or is it from certain things that I eat, or both? Did I say it sucks??? |

hi Mark,
I haven't had any problems with dumping syndrome, so I can't speak to how long it lasts, but if you're having problems with it, I would suggest taking a close look at what you're eating and trying to find a correlation. Maybe posting here what you eat and asking the veterans for feedback would be helpful. Best of luck!

are you talking about foamies and puking...or actual intestinal dumping?
Foamies/puking can be caused by eating too fast, not chewing food well enough, drinking while eating etc...
Dumping is when foods high in sugar or fat hit your intestines and you are chained to the cammode in excrutiating pain....accompanied with HORRIBLE bowel releases...praying for someone to come shoot you and put you out of your misery....
Both can be controlled....I haven't dumped or had foamies in quite a while...

i agree you may have to take a look at what you are eating, different ppl dump from different foods, try and figure out what is making this happen and avoid it

Although I havent yet had my surgery, from what I can gather, it could be from what you are possibly eating.
I am sure the others will be along soon to give you some better more specific advise!
I do wish you all the best though.

Mark,
type in "dumping" in the search here and previous threads will come up. I know that a few times I've felt really ill after eating something. A few times it was just a little queasy, flushed cheeks...
One time after cerial and skim milk I felt like I was sea sick, had to lay down for almost an hour (thought I did good buying Kashi cerial, totally missed the fact that it was honey toasted). Dumping can range from slight headach to full insulin rush and needing a toilet fast. In 'weight loss surgery for dummies' it did say, some people dump, some never do, and that in time your intestine relearns how to absorb, but I don't know how long...18 months...? Doc will know better.

yes please post what you've eaten before you get sick so we can maybe get a better idea. when you say dumping, please describe the symptoms too! you coould have just eaten something that doesnt "sit well" as opposed to actually DUMPING.
whoever said this was the easy way out is NUTS!! feel better

What everone said, plus, please check out the article linked into the following thread. Baritaric Surgery: Post Operative Concerns
And, sorry to say, you'll have to deal with dumping for life, so you need to check your eating to see which particular foods and situations cause you to dump, and learn to avoid them.
