| Guru In Training | Hi all, I am new to this board, as I am scheduled for WLS, July 20. I made up my mind in April, when my copays for all my pills were 100$. My BMI was not enough but the co-morbidities I have were enough to approve almost immd. I did the psych elval, 3 dietician visits, met the DR. and his Staff and Im ready to go. My husband had it done 5 years ago{ full surgery} my brother in Nov.{ lapro} another sister had it done 2 years ago, another sister is scheduled in Aug and my neice and another sister in Sept. The genes are there for obeseity { sp} and heart, diabeties. I am ready! Peggy

| WLS Master Guru | Hey Peggy. Welcome, and I am happy to meet you. July 20th will be here before you know it. And, with so many around you that have had the surgery, you will have great support. How is your husband doing being 5 years post op? I like to here stories of people who are further out to see how they are doing. Hope to see you here on the boards often. S |

| Guru In Training | Thanks so much for welcoming me. David had his WLS, 5 years ago and dropped 125 lbs, he is only 5'5. He has maintained his weight, with 10 lbs up and down. His lowest weight was 118, way too thin. Then gradually he went to 130 and thats where he's been. He can't eat chix, beef, any soft breads, but can manage chix nuggets, the formed ones, about 3. He eats lots of soups and could eat chili every day. I have to encourage him to eat protein foods, but with men..... what do you do? He does love all sorts of beans,{ protein, he isn't aware of that} yogurt, cottage cheese. He can't drink any milk, not even soy...but doesn't miss it. he can eat "pudding pops". His health is excellent, enlarged heart went down after surgery, so he is doing very good. He does take vit. B shots, he hates pills. We lived in Minneapolis then, so he had his surgery done there, and 5 years ago it was a rare surgery. Peggy/Fargo ![]()

| WLS Master Guru | Wow, David sounds like me with what he can eat. I have a very hard time with meats. Chicken is OK sometimes, but hamburger or any type of beef...not so good. Soft bread still makes me sick, and I basically live on lentil soup and yogurt and cheese. I am so happy when I hear someone with long term success. It gives me hope for myself. Congratulations to your husband for doing so well, and I know you will do just as well. S |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi Peggy, glad to have you hear. My surgery is set for Aug. 7th, so I'll be close behind you. I'm anxious to hear about your recovery goes. Mine will be lap RNY, is that what you are having. My weight is 90-95 over where I should be, so sounds like maybe we're pretty close. Welcome to the boards!

| Guru In Training | Hi, I have been to the hospital at Park Rapids, MN where my surgery will take place, July20. I went with my brother who had it 1 week after Thanksgiving. He has lost 130 lbs and is doing great. Iam familar with the DR and all the staff and have no concerns.I have purchased all my food and am ready to go. I have a great support system of 3 sisters here in Fargo, and my husband, so I am looking forward to it. I weigh 206 and did not meet the BMI test but with all my co-morbidities, that cinched it with the insurance. Peggy/Fargo
