Angry Any docs around?--pacemaker surgery

I had pacemaker surgery on Feb 12. and am doing fine. I got a phone call 3 days ago, and my dad passed out at the local market. EMT's arrived and checked him out, and his pulse was 33. Took him to local hospital, and was told he needed a pacemaker. Surgery was 2 days ago, and he was kept overnight for observation due to late surgery of 4 PM. I called my mom at noon yesterday, he's not home yet. I called back at 5:30 and she just spoke to he doctor. He was being kept overnight again for observation. My mom asked why, and guess what she was told? HIS LUNG WAS PERFORATED DURING SURGERY. Now I'm having difficult figuring this one out, as i had the same surgery about a month ago. The pacemaker is implanted just below the skin under the collarbone by the heart. How the heck can you perforate a lung in this procedure?????

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Yes, that can happen.
Though the pacemaker itself is located right under your skin, the wires that go to the heart--the leads have to be implanted in the heart walls-- are usually passed through the large vein under your collar bone and inserted into the heart to be implanted in your heart wall. It's at the point of entry that the perforation can happen.
You yourself must have been explained/shown a diagram of how the pacemaker and the leads will be placed, and I think your dr would have mentioned lung perforation as one of the complications that can happen during the procedure, if your dr was pretty specific and honest about complications.

No mention of lung perforations in my consult for pacemaker surgery. My surgeon was a woman who explained the procedure, but not this possible complication. Hence my post of today asking why?

He finally got home last night about 7 PM. My mom was worn out about this whole thing. My sister flew down from northern CA, to help out. My dad did most of the cooking and cleaning, as my mom has diabetes and has circulation problems now, so she has to use a walker to get around the home. Thanks for the input, everyone.
