Default Warning!! Newbie freaking out!!

Hello to everyone!! I'm a first time poster. My surgery is April 21 (RYGB) and I am officially freaking out. I am scared. I am worried that the decision to have surgery is a selfish one, for if something goes wrong or I have a catastrophic outcome, I am taking my son's mother away. I am also concerned how the emotional eaters deal with emotions and stress without the ability to soothe themselves with food. My biggest fear is just regretting the decision. I know (at least I hope) that my fears are normal, but just need some trusted advice from those who have been there. Any correspondence would be appreciated. Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello and welcome,

It would be very easy for me to say just relax and not freak out but you are going to anyway. Please know that this is very normal right now. I ran around like a nut getting everything 'in-line' just in case something happened to me during or after surgery. I cried while they wheeled me to the surgery room. I am 2 1/2 months out and I feel pretty darn good. As for missing foods...it is weird you just don't! I will admit in the the beginning it was tough because you are home and bouncing off of the walls so food is the only thing in the past you could turn to but with your new pouch you cannot have them. When I want something chocolate I have some SF pudding.

Hang in there your surgery will be here before you know it and then the new journey begins. Stayed around this site also. It helps!

Take care

Default Relax...

First, take a deep breath. Then realize that it's OK to take care of you. In the long run you are making yourself healthier for your son. All of your feelings are totally normal, this too shall pass. As far as the emotional eating, it sometimes is rough I won't lie to you but it gets better and that is what we are all here for, lay it on us, we can take on the burdens for you and hopefully you can let out your emotions instead of eating them away... We are here for you!

Welcome! Sometimes you need to be a little selfish! Besides, you are trying to be there for your son longer, not the other way around. There are risks as with anything, but the bottom line is that this will make you healthier and be around for his kids. The relationship with food is a tough one to give up, but as you see the weight coming off, it gets easier. It turns into a different kind of relationship, but a good one! One where you eat to live, not live to eat!
I don't know of anyone who ever says that they regret it other than not doing it sooner, but maybe a select few have their reasons. And as for emotional support - that's what we're here for!

Think about the decision you made, why you made it, and how you feel it will impact your life. If you're ready, you're ready. If you're not, you're not. I was very much at peace with my decision and believed it was right for me at the time I did it. The potential benefits far outweighed the risks for me. Was I scared? Absolutely. This is a major life change, if you didn't take it seriously, we'd be more worried about you! Take a breath, say a prayer and try to do things to keep your mind from going wild We're here for ya, no matter what decision you make.
