Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello everyone I am writing because I need an objective opinion. Lately my family states that I am being moody: sometimes happy, sometimes mean and sometimes sad. It usually occurs around dinner time when they are eating food and I am sipping on some protein liquid. I do admit that I sometimes get sad that I cant have what they are eating but I know its for a good reason. The good news is I am down to 194 and I am able to exercise again. Other than that, my pancreatitis have resolved and I feel great! Much more energy that ever before. My question: Have anyone experienced having mood swings after WLS more specifically do you seem to get moody when your family is eating regular food and you are not?

| Super Moderator | Sounds pretty much typical. You will have plenty of mood swings post op, especically when dealing with food or stress. If it does get to be *too much* you should seek professional help. (((((HUGS)))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Depression is also a common byproduct of surgery, at least for the first few months. You've given up the "best friend--FOOD" that you've had for years. But this friend is also the one that caused you to resort to surgery to improve your health. There are many who take antidepressants post op when these mood swings or depression become overwhelming. I took antidepressants prior to surgery, and still take them today. In fact, I'm kinda down today. So even with medication, some days are still somewhat "sucky".

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Oooooooooooohhhhhh yeah! Definitely. I have serious mood swings and it feels like PMS every day. It had gotten a little better until the last 2 days of real PMS and I was really depressed.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I guess I have to say that I have very few mood swings. It never bothered me when I had to eat my foods and the rest ate thier food. I think what really helps is that my family wants to make what I can eat and like I said in my other posts that I am revising lots of recipes. When I first had my surgery it did not bother me what they ate is just the fact that I hated the taste and smell of food the first few months was such a chore for me to eat, and I was happy with what I could eat and what would agree with me. Once I could eat chili, I lived on chili for a long time becasue so many foods did not taste good to me and my food list was so small becasue lots of foods at the beginning did not agree with me. But once I started to like food again I started to revise recipes and is working out great and my family is just excited about revising recipes with me. So that makes it fun. I even told my family and friends that I can bring my own food and they do not have to cook what I can eat, well they refuse, becasue they make such an effort so that I can eat what they make and that is such a wonderful feeling. They feel so proud that they can make something that I can eat. What makes it better is just the fact that my daughter has to eat the same foods I do when we go to family to eat. She had her surgery almost a year earlier than I had my surgery.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was so sickend by what others ate that early out. But I did mourn losing my "best friend" now it is just food to me, I eat it cause I have to in order to stay alive. Sometimes I get wistful over something others are having. Sometimes I will have just one bite of whatever my hubby is having and that is enough, sometimes the memory was better than the bite!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OK I was fine with my mood until last month! LOOK OUT! I was also breaking out all over my face like a teenager so I know my hormones were whacked! Then I had TOM and 3 weeks later he came back AGAIN! I know this is supposed to be normal during rapid weight loss, but I am usually easy going and I was quite a B#$! for a couple of weeks. Everyone says it's normal, but it still isn't EASY! And as far as the food part and mourning, that does get better over time. I don't really miss anything now, and I can have a bite if I need to anyway- which is usually all it takes for me to decide it isn't worth it anyway!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | First, it is nice to know that others have experienced what I am going through. And no it is not that bad being that I only had my surgery on April 1st. I think it is because I had to be on clear liquid a little longer than most people due to having pancreatitis. It is gone now and I will be switch to full liquids on monday. I guess I was having a bad day and for some reason the fries smelled great to me which is rare because as one people wrote most normal foods smell make me nauseated. Anyway, I took some pics today and seeing that difference makes not eating "regular" foods worth it. Plus, I dont have to take lipitor anymore. I am focusing on the positives. Again, that you everyone for such nice words.
