Hello my name is Clarissa. My surgery is Wed and I'm so scared I feel like I want to backout. I worry what if something goes wrong. I have thre kids and I want to loose so I can keep up with them and be there for them but I just keep thinking of the horror stories that go around. I was really excited until yesterday and I have thought of reason to wait and my husband says he thinks I will regret it later if I chicken out. Please help.

Your fears are normal. The best I can do is relate. I am a single-parent and the father of my children is not at liberty to have contact with them, so I can completely understand the fears you are facing. I ran around making sure that all custody papers were in order and life insurance and trust accounts were set appropriately. While I still think I was right in my preparation, I know that I became nearly frantic in the 11th hour. What got me through was the thought that I lived my life as a risk every single day due to my weight. I also lived as a spectator with my children every day. I did not like life as a spectator. I wanted to enjoy living life with my kids! So I figured that if I was already taking the risk by not doing anything about my weight with no return of good, then I might as well take the risk of a surgery that had great odds (thank you education and technology advances) to possibly live a full life afterward.
I hope this helps hun.

Clarissa - I am married and have two kids. I went through something similar. I wondered if I was doing the right thing, if I had really tried enough to do this on my own. The truth of the matter is that I weighed 260 pounds. I had not been able to lose weight. If I had I would have done it a long time ago. The overriding factor for me was my health. I had to put me first. That was the only way that I could be a good wife and mom and ensure the I was going to be there for them for the long haul. I want to see my kids graduate from high school and college, and get married, and have kids of their own. The only way that I was going to help ensure that was to be sure that I am healthy. In the end, the positives outweighed the negatives for me. It took prayer and a health scare, but the day of my surgery I was calm and at peace with the decision that I had made. It was the right thing to do.
I hope that you will find your peace as well. The surgery is successful. All of the folks on this board are testament to that.
I will be praying for you.

Thanks so much I go at 1:45 to finish up and pre register at the hospital. The thing that is so scarry for me is the actual procedure I don't like to be put to sleep and the only time I have ever had ant type of surgery is a tubal seven years ago. I know I will most likley do it but I is still scarry.

I think everyone goes through similar thoughts. I was scared, nervous, excited...and that changed from hour to hour over the last few days prior to surgery. I can say at this point that I have no regrets! Good luck today!!! We are here if you need us!!

Clarissa,
Hello and welcome.
I think almost everyone is more afraid of the anesthesia then the actual surgery. You'll be ok. You are doing this for all the right reasons - your children one of them. Sending a prayer your way! Post when you get home!

WELCOME!!!
You are having the seelings that MOST of us on here have had....
You WILL BE OK!!!!!!!!
Believe me your kids will appreciate what you've done for yourself & them later on!!
You can overcome these fears, with all surgeries there is a risk.
But, I truly believe when its your destiny, things happen as they will..
LOL,
