Default I'm home from surgery!

It was Monday morning at 5:20am and I already went through admitting and was awaiting to see the anethesiologist- my surgery is schedulded for 7:30am. As my husband and I were waiting, I lost it. Everything flashed through my head, is this the right thing, what if something goes wrong etc. etc. I cried and cried...I have 3 young boys at home and to leave them now would be unthinkable. Finally, 7:30am rolled around and the nurses took me back to the operating room. I said good-bye to my husband and had an odd sense of calmness, I knew God was with me. The next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room- it was 2 hours for my surgery. I remember being hot, in pain and wanting to vomit. After 2 more hours, I remember waking up in my room with my husband, mom and friend. I don't remember much of that day as the drugs were passing through my system. My Dr. said the surgery went really well without any sort of complications... yes!

1st day post-op was great! The initial day was really tough, I remember I had to go to the bathroom and being way too dizzey to get up. I pushed myself and finally was walking later that night. I was walking like crazy and feeling great. This was Monday, Wednesday I went home. Today is Friday and adjusting to this new way of life.

I'm making sure I'm taking the vitamins and proteins I need. I'm sticking to my strick diet of not drinking before or after 30 minutes of eating. Boy is that hard, but I'm doing it. I was the type to drink about 24 ounces with each meal. My problem now is still feeling hungry. I'm not sure if it's feeling hungry or just not feeling full. I have the dull, stale headaches that I would get when I didn't eat- preop. I'm trying to ignore it and continue with the plan. It's a little hard too, as food is constantly around in my house as I have to feed my 3 boys and husband.

I too have the thoughts of, did I do the right thing? I know and sure I did. I've lost almost 10 pounds this week- that's encouraging. Although the weight isn't the biggest factor for me, it's getting rid of my co-morbidities (hypertension); it's being able to run around with my boys; it's living long enough to see their kids... overall, being healthy.

Today, I'm looking forward to the day that I can sleep on my side again- I just can't seem to get comfortable at night, I'm not a back sleeper, so that's really tough for me. Pain management is under control, it just makes me really sleepy- knocks me out! I want to be able to walk around without my tummy hurting or me hunched over.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story, I couldn't wait to get on this board, you guys are so supportive and totally understand all these new feelings...

Any suggestions on how to overcome my headaches? I'm not craving food, it's just that I don't feel full-

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Glad to hear that you are home and everything went well. Make sure you sip sip sip to try to get in your fluids, as for the headache not sure what to tell you, but maybe you should contact your surgeron. They may just go away in a few days.

Default me, too

I just had my surgery Tuesday and came home yesterday. I don't have any of the surgery pain, but the headaches are outrageous. I think they feel like withdrawal from some of the pain meds, etc.
I have family around that needs and wants to eat, also. Go figure...
My dudes are big and mean. I have found myself going back to the sheet of paper with the recommended food items and have been trying them all. I have found myself very emotional, also. Seem to be on the verge of tears constantly.
Please don't do too much and maybe your pains will ease up. We're in it now! We can do it!

Good luck friend,
Cyndie

Holy cow! My son had a special mother's day celebration at school and I just couldn't miss it. Because I can't drive yet and I'm still very sore, my mother drove me. I couldn't stop crying at the celebration- for me, that's a little crazy as I'm not a crier at all. I'm sure our bodies are going through something very big- we just need to patient.

Please keep posting on your progress... I too keep reverting back to my list, I'm just trying to mix it all up, I'm already tired of the protein shakes and I still have 2 weeks to go with them

Take care!

Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench!!
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.
Take things easy, rest, and sip sip sip.

Your headache. It may be an after effect of anesthesia, but it also may be carb withdrawal, or caffeine withdrawal.
Were you on a liquid diet for a couple of weeks pre op? If not, one or the other of the above is most likely.
Also, make sure you keep up with your liquids, if you ge dehydrated, that can bring up the concentration of whatever is giving you the headache and make it worse. You need lots of fluids to keep hydrated, and to flush out the bad stuff.
If you've been given some pain meds, that may help you. It should get better after a few days, though.

Thanks for your response-
You know after much thought, I'm absolutely sure my headaches are from carb withdrawl. Carbs were a major part of my diet, every day in fact. Now I haven't had carbs in almost one week and my body is freaking out. This is by far the most difficult thing I've ever gone through in my whole life. It's like my body was used to this drug (carbs) and now it's going through withdrawl. Yes, when I take the pain meds, it really helps along with knocking me out. I can't wait until I can have mashed potatos, but I'm sure when it's time, I'm really not going to want them as bad as now. Luckily I wasn't a caffeine junky, I may have had a cup of coffee here or there, or a diet-coke- so losing those entirely has been not bad at all. Carbs were my poison, eating pasta 3-4 times per week, bread every day etc. Yiykes! I can't believe how much my body has been addicted! I'm paying the price now-

I've read and read that the 1st few weeks post-op are the most difficult and I can totally understand why. I'm a very strong person by nature and take difficult situations in stride- that's what I'm trying to do now. My husband, mother and friend are really supportive and are there for me when I just need to break-down. I have you guys because you completely understand my feelings, the new days and this entire journey. Thanks again for responding and giving me encouragement, I can't wait until I can repay this back to someone one day. You have no idea how important it is what you guys do- thank you, thank you

Yeah, that first week I had headaches. Mine were from caffeine and carb withdrawal. It was awful, but you sound like everything is normal...
