Hi, all! I'm the newest kid on the block, so I thought I'd introduce myself.

Since high school I'd always been a bit stocky, but the last 20 years or so it got to be a bit much. In the last 10 years, I went on low-carb a couple of times and lost 60 pounds each time, but it always found its way home and brought friends. Finally I said enough is enough! There were medical problems, and I just didn't like the way I fit or felt, so I looked into the last resort - surgery.

It took 8 months or so to get everything lined up for the big day, but I had RNY just after Christmas last year. It's been a wild ride! Back then I weighed 50% more than I do today. My cholesterol is down 100 points, my BP is where it was 40 years ago, my triglycerides are practically non-existent compared to where they have been, and I am feeling hugely better than I thought possible just half a year ago. I can take the stairs at work two at a time with my textbooks and computer bag on my back just like the students, and not be wheezing and drenched when I hit the top.

Only problem I have now (I never thought this would be a problem!) is how to slow down the weight loss! As I near my target value, I don't want to go past trim and healthy and on to the Auschwitz survivor look! If this is the worst I face, I'll be okay!

Now comes the hard part - maintaining and exercising discipline to do the right things with my nutrition for the next few decades!

Wow, you've lost really fast! What is your calorie intake? Are you on reg foods, I assume? What exercise are you doing? You need to determine how many calories you need to maintain your current weight with your exercise regimen. Then just be sure to get in the proper amount of calories in nutritious meals and drinks. Congrats on your labs! Lots of us use the online calorie trackers like fitday or sparkpeople. I dont do it often, just occasionally to keep myself on track. While you're tweaking your diet, though, it will be helpful to do daily to get a feel for the various values of your foods. Good luck!
