Good luck on Wednesday! Oh, and don't plan to spend any time out sailing or playing handball for a week or two!! ;^)
The day of my surgery is kind of blurry, but the night following was one of the longest on record! Just plan on being miserable, but be nice to the nursing staff. Anyone with the power to catheterize you must be respected! Don't expect to feel good for a couple of days and you won't be disappointed.
The most important thing to keep in mind is to follow the doctor's orders religiously! You're hiring an expert, so mind that you listen to those years of experience and don't try to invent short cuts. If you follow the doctor's and staff's orders, you will have success. Don't worry about the rest of this week - it's already booked. But the rest of your life is wide open, and it's a whole lot more fun with that new body you've been keeping wrapped up in hiding.
One thing you can do to reduce scarring is to go to the store and get some cocoa butter cream. I found it in the skin care section at Wal-Mart. It's been formulated to help the skin heal, and is really worth getting. It keeps the scar tissue soft and prevents it from pulling as it heals. My wife used it on some significant scars following knee and elbow replacement surgery last year (it wasn't a good year for her, poor kid!) and it helped tremendously. I used it after my surgery, not from vanity, but because it reduced discomfort and helped with healing.
Check back in with us in a week or two and let us know how you do. If you haven't already, take some "before" pictures of yourself tomorrow. You'll be amazed when you look back at them in a few months!
