Default hi all

well, i went to the weight loss seminar at u of texas medical branch here in galveston texas a week ago. they have me for a dr; appointment for june 10. this will be the 1st since the seminar, im not sure what this is about, then on the 16th i have one for a dieticien and right after that the head surgeon, then i have another with the dieticien again a month after the 16 on july 16. i think the one ofn the 10 is to see a surg. admin. ,, how long after the seminar and how many doctors will i have to see before the gastric bypass will be done? thanks all, jimmy

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello and welcome!
Really depends on surgeon, what you have to do prior and your insurance. Did you get approval from insurance yet?
It was about 3 - 4 months from start to finish for me.

I had to go to seminar
psychologist
nutritionist
cardiologist
sleep apnea
hospital pre admitt
surgeons pre surgery seminar

and of course saw my pcp a few times in there.

Good luck!

It depends on you insurance and your doctor. Be persistant in keeping up with whats going on, my paperwork was getting lost from my primary doctor to my surgeon. I had to keep calling. Some insurance requires you to go jump through more hoops than others. Good Luck!

My insurance didn't require me to have a 6 month nutritional diet so I just have the basic appts.

Seminar last April 9
Gallbladder U/S April 13
Nutritionist May 13
Psychologist June 5
Nutiritionist June 10
Nutritionist July 7

Then I believe it gets submitted to insurance for final approval if all has gone well, then I meet with surgeon and get surgery date. So I'm hoping for a mid - late August surgery date. We'll see.

thanks all, i went thru the seminar about a year ago, thinking medicare would cover it ,( i have a disabilty) i have drop foot in my right leg which causes me to step sorta on my tip toes but i can walk some. i also have a treachaostomy from when i got disabled in the hospital for a 3 day stay for puemonia in 2000 which turned into a 45 day stay in a coma after getting MERSA in the hospital , which where i got several dicubulus on my foot rear end etc, took a year and a half to heal. not bitter and doing ok, i got the tracheaostomy at some point then and when i woke up on was on life support! i had sleep apnea before and thats why the doctors decided to keep it in me , it really doesnt bother me as the rubbery ones they have now are comfortable and i have no more sleep apnea, maybe if i lose weight after awhile it might come out ! well my hospital then was not a center of excellence and now they are , so thats why im starting from the beginning again, so medicare will be the insu. any more info. would be appreciated!! jimmy

Yep their right. It all depends on your surgeon and your insurance company. It is a very good idea I will say to call your insurance company and ask them what is required. This way if the Drs office tells you your insurance requires it you can show them different. Alot of them will email you the qualifcation list. BTW welcome to the boards. You have found a great place for information and support. Stick around and you wont regret it!
