| Trouble sleeping
Did anyone else have trouble sleeping the first week out of surgery? I have tried sleeping in the recliner, on the couch, and finally felt good enough last night to lay down in bed. I wake up with headaches and neck aches. I can only sleep 2 hours at a time (even with pain medicine). I bought a "wedge" for the bed from Amazon yesterday to see if that would help. I was so desperate at 3am this morning, I wondered if I should rent a hospital bed...
I have read through several threads and had many of my other questions asked.

Sorry, I was really tired and slept a lot. I waited a few days before I got in bed and slept on lots of pillows on my couch. I think the lortab helped. I wasn't in a ton of pain, which helped too. Maybe others have some advise.

I have been taking the Lortab only at night to help me sleep, but it still only lets me sleep for a couple hours. I was considering taking a sleeping pill, but if I am hurting my neck while I sleep, I guess it is better to just wake up and stretch a bit before trying again.
Luckily, I am not in much pain anymore. Just a really sore spot on the left side. I hear nearly everyone has this pain, which makes me feel better about it.

I would not recommend the lortab and a sleeping aid without your surgeons approval.
My hardest problem was not being able to sleep on my side...which I was able to do on day 10.
For the first 4 weeks, I would wake up from 3-5 AM and not be tired at all. I would get up and do something (usually post here). Eventually, though, my naps got shorter and my sleeping settled down.
Hang in there

I don't think the lortab is bad to take for help with sleeping if the reason you can't sleep is because you're in pain. That's the point of it. I took it to help ease the pain and get some rest.
I had left sided pain, and yes, it seems to be extremely common. The good news is it doesn't last too long.

I rememeber not being able to find a comfortable position, between abdomen pain, that darn left side pain, and only being able to kind of 'nod off' for a few hours...yes, the first few days were exhausting. Don't know why the sleep was so choppy, but after the first 5 - 7 days it got much better. Sleeping on my side, that's a whole other story, it was 4 weeks for me. Good luck!

Last year my wife had knee replacement surgery, and I splurged (she's worth it!) and bought a Tempupedic bed with full adjustments for the feet and head. It worked great for her, and it was wonderful to help me get comfy when I got home from my surgery. I could get my legs and my head elevated or depressed, and somehow I managed to get it set up pretty good for sleeping that first week. I must have, anyway, as I don't remember having any troubles getting good rest then.
