I am bit nervouse but my sister has had this surgery and has lost 210 lbs and feels great and the family supports me that helps most of the guys in my (5 brothers) family start having heart problems at 50 and we all put on the weight the same place around the middle so that scares me more, being 43 and to be honest i am a little selfish i have two girls turning 20 and the other 16 so getting to piont to be empty nesters and would like to be able to do the things I could when younger or at least attemp to lol. well this is start of my jorney and want to say hi.

| Welcome Bill. You've found a great place for support. I haven't had my surgery yet, I'm waiting for my appt to meet with the surgeon before I get my surgery date. Sort of in limbo right now. Good luck with your progress and I hope your wife is able to move on soon. My condolences to your wife on the death of her father.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | How wonderful to have a man on this site. Always great to have a differant perspective. I can identify with you, on the ages of your kids, and being empty nesters, and wanting to be able to do things without the obesity. I had my surgery when I was 39 yrs. old. I am now 9 yrs postop, and my daughter had the same surgery 8 months after I did. Then my niece had the surgery. Seemed to be a start of something, all good for everyone so far. The psyc visits can really be a pain. Of course she is having the pain of the loss of her father. But, I dont see the reason to hold her up for surgery, as it would be an asset to her self if she could have the surgery. Life only gets better, after the balls that come your way, get pushed back. I know of others where both spouses had the same surgery. And your right, you will be able to take care of each other, and know how to life the rest of your life, as a successful WLS patient. Your life is gonna change only for the better. Keep encouraging your wife to change Drs. if that might help. My goodness, I am in counseling, and its amazing how I feel great going in, and feel down when I leave. Talking about all the downers in life, can not always be good. Unless it is holding her emotions back. Good luck, and welcome to the group. I myself is new also....
