Talking Home and Feeling Good

Hi, everybody! I'm home from the hospital following my RNY on Tuesday. Surgery went well; apparently I had a hiatial hernia I wasn't aware of that the surgeon fixed while she was in there. Otherwise, it was uneventful. I was able to walk a couple hours after surgery and did it as much as I could. Walking really helped me with pain control and flexibility. I have a hard time sleeping on my back and was determined to stretch as much as the nurses allowed me to to try and sleep on my side. It worked! I can sleep on both my right and left sides.

I'm not having any trouble with my liquids or proteins yet--I'm very thirsty so it's been easy to get in the recommended amounts. I am taking liquid vicodin as needed for pain, and hopefully won't need it much longer. I'm able to sleep in my own bed with a body pillow.

I haven't lost an ounce of weight--guess I need to get rid of all the air and fluids first.

Thanks to everyone for their concern and well-wishes. I'm very happy with how well surgery went.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That's great!!! Welcome home!
You have to be the first person I have ever heard that can drink ok after! I'm over 5 months out and I still can't! But that's great, at least you won't get dehydrated. I still don't get 60 oz a day. I'm happy over 40 oz!

Wow, sounds like everything went great. You are doing really well, much better than I did only two days out!! Good for you. You are doing all the right things.

About the weight loss, hang in there. I gained a little weight right after surgery and within a few days not only did that come off, but much more!! I guess it is from the IV fluids and the swelling.

Congratulations!!

Welcome home!! It's great that you're able to drink so early! That will help you so much in your recovery!! I had no problem either with drinking right after my surgery, but it did take me a few days to get past 64 ounces. Now I routinely drink 80-100 or more in a day. If you are as good with protein as you are now with water, you will have no problems with your recovery, and the weight will melt off you like an iceberg in the tropics.

I don't think I weighed for the first week or two post-op, but it seemed to kick in pretty early. Be patient, and hang on tight! This is like the slow climb up the hill on a roller coaster!! You are just at the top - free fall is right in front of you!!

For now, get lots of rest, drink while you're up, and get that protein in you! The rest will follow and you'll be a shadow of yourself before you know it!!

LOL I remember being so frustrated with the scale that first week. I really thought I would lose SOMETHING but instead I went up 16 pounds from all the IV fluid. They overloaded me at the hospital because I couldn't pee after they took the catheter out.

Be patient, the weight loss will start.

Welcome to the losers bench.

I think most of us gained after surgery. But before you know it the weight will start falling off you, along with your clothes! LOL Enjoy this phase, it is a great feeling peeling off the pounds. And remember we are here for any questions no matter how little, and definately if you get bothered about something. We've all been through it!
