Hello everyone!

This is my first time on site. My girlfriend told me about forums that would be helpful during my transformation. She found this site. I have decided to get my life back after dealing with my weight for almost 18 years. I have started the process for the weight loss surgery. I have had moy consultation. I just finished with the nutrionist. This week i have to see the pysch and the wellness center. Then the doctor will sign off the papers for me to get it approved by my insurance company. Once thats done i will see surgeon and proceed with scheduling it.

I am a mother of 5 children and i have a wonder husband who is now deployed in Iraq. I want to live and have the quality of life that i know i can have and deserve. My family needs me and i need your support. For those of you who have had the surgery already help!!!! I need to know what to expect and just guidance and support along the way. I hope that this message finds all well. Thanks! Lisa

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

ljenkins,
Welcome from one military wife to another. We were stationed in Germany back in 1997-2000. My husband is also in Iraq so I know the pains you are dealing with. This surgery has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had type 2 diabetes High Blood Pressure, Gurd and several other co-morbitities and now a year later have none. I have lost 110 pounds and feel better then I have in years. I look forward to getting to know you

I was lucky I had no complications from the surgery. It has been smooth sailing for me really, the only problem for me was the gas pains I had. I have had an easy time of it for the most part, occasionaly I'll eat something I know I shouldnt and dump but other then that nothing to complain about. Tricare was pretty quick to get me through for surgery so that was nice. I had it done in July of last year and 6 weeks later hubby left for NTC in Cali for 3 months, he came home for 6 weeks and left for Iraq so he has been gone pretty much my whole journey, he gets lots of pictures but I dont think he has quite got the grasp of just how little I have become since he has left. I cant wait to shock him on R&R, he'll be home in Oct sometime. Where in Germany are y'all? We were in Baumholder and I loved it, I hear that base is getting closed down though. How long have you been married? I have tons of questions..lol...it's always nice to meet more military families, we have several that lurk around here and post when they can. Are you getting the surgery done through the military hospital in Landstuhl or are they referring you off base? Anywho I guess thats enough questions for now huh?

Im in Mannheim. The surgery and the surgeron will all be done on the economy. At the Clinicum in Mannheim. I got married to my husband November of last year we are newlyweds but we have been together for 6 years prior. This is my first duty station. I did hear that Tricare is very fast. After my appt. Weds. I got back to the dr. next Thursday and take the paperwork to get approved. I have been told the approval comes back the same day. I was also told that i should have a day in mind because Dr. will ask. Im trying to shoot for Sept. first week. My husband left in June and will gone until next sept. Since he his coming hom for R&R so early. Once he gets next year he will truly be shocked. I plan on not sending any pictures to him. i want him totally suprised.

So he has this dreaded 15 month deployment too huh? Will left in Dec and comes back for good March of 09. If you can refrain from sending pics your hubby will definately be surprised. Do you and hubby chat via web cam? If so he'll get a little glimpse of how your face will slim down but the rest will shock the heck out of him. Congrats on your marraige, it sucks that y'all have to be apart already though. We have another member who was a newly wed when her hubby left too, he just came home not long ago. anyways its so good to meet you and if you have any questions just ask away. BTW how old are your kids?

This is my second marriage. My 3 older ones are 18, 16, 14 and my 3 year old twins will be 4 in Sept. So as you can see i have my hands full. We dont have web cam and im not planning on getting it for that reason. The twins are a boy and girl. The 2 oldest are boys and my 14 year old is a girl. My oldest son is still not really wanting me to have the surgery but all are supportive because they know this is what i want and need.

Definately sounds like you have your hands full especialy with 3 year old twins, at least the older ones can help you with the twins while you recover from surgery. I have 3 children a 12 yr old an almost 11 year old and a 6 year old. They have been a godsend to have around during this deployment, lots of help

Well good to hear from military wives. I was one for 25 years and been there done that. I had my surgery done July 23rd am so far doing pretty good I think. The first few days home were not fun but they are getting better every day. If you'd told me Friday I'd feel better today I would have thought you were lying but Hey you do!!!! I know now that everyday will be better than the next. I can't wait to get where I can move around and enjoy life more. I have had one knee replaced and the other needs done. My plan is not. Loosing weight will help.
Military wives need as much if not more support because a lot of you don't have hubby around. Good luck and hope to get to hear alot more from you.
