| fatigue...issues...help
Aloha everyone,
I'm 3rd week post-op..and I feel fatigued daily. when do I start my exercise regime. I walk daily...but my friend (who went through G.B) told me to combat fatigue....cardio. Somehow, I cannot imagine exercising ...with the way that I feel. Yesterday, I swallowed too quickly and heaved...so I now am kind of scared to eat anything. So...I'm weaker. Any advice...friends?

It is very normal to feel fatigued for months after surgery. Your body just went through a big change! As far as cardio goes- check with your doc, and if he/she gives it a go start slow and work your way up.

Def agree with KB. Your surgeon will let you know when it is time to step it up. I had to wait about 7 weeks before I could do anything but walk. Good Luck.

| Welcome! Everyone reacts differently ~ this surgery knocked me on my butt for awhile! I had a hysterectomy in July 06 and recovered much quicker from that with abd incision than with this lapro procedure. Focus on your liquids, protein, staying hydrated, and lots of TLC. Any exercise is good ~ I started with walking, literally few hundred feet and back, very slowly and progressed a few extra steps daily. During your recovery, it's good to do multiple small walks every little bit (rather than 1-2 longer walks) so you keep your circulation healthy (keep your water with you, esp this time of year). This is a good time to really pamper yourself ~ take naps, think of the food you are able to consume as healthy fuel for your body to recover and then, as the weight starts coming off, thrive! You'll be amazed at the change in relationship you'll have with food Congrats on joining the loser's bench ~ glad you found us~~~

I posted a week or so ago about being exhausted and week, and I was about 3 weeks post-op at the time. It's totally normal, and it WILL get better. Listen to your doc, and your body. Cardio does give me energy, but if I'm too tired to haul my butt to the gym, I don't beat myself up. Just walking short distances is good for us. Hang in there--I promise your energy level will increase!!

Take it EASY!
My surgeon said no gym until after 4 weeks (week5). Your surgeon may say otherwise.
I was expected to walk 1 mile/day, but at week 3-4 I was also down for the count.
My change that seemed to help was I did not start taking supplements until after breakfast. My system did not like calcium on an empty stomach. I now don't even start supplements until about 11AM.

Your surgery date is very recent. You can expect to feel fatigued for the next 3-4 months, and that is quite normal. Your body is in a "starvation mode" after surgery. Your body needs time to adjust, and you need to establish an eating and hydration routine. Exercise helps too, believe it or not. You need to do some form of exercise daily, walking is fine. I attend 3 support meetings per month and fatigue is oftened mentioned. Many think they can have this surgery and go back to work in a week. These working people normally take a full 6 weeks off of work, some only 4 weeks. And they are really tired at the end of each day with sedimentary jobs. If you have any type of heavily active job, I would take as much time as possible, possibly returning on a half day schedule for a while, if at all possible. DAVE
