Default First POST-OP Post!!

Hey all,

I'm not quite a newbie, but I am a newbie to the Post-Op population so I thought I'd post here. I'm now 8 days out from surgery and I've lost a total of 22 pounds! I can't believe how great I feel a week after having maybe surgery. I have no pain and had very little really even right after the surgery. I've been out walking about a mile a day and plan to increase that even more as the days and weeks go on. This is such a great time of year to be outside walking in Chicago.

My doctor has ok'd me to start Phase 3 eating this weekend (pureed food, baby food, mashed potatoes, etc.). I've really been having a hard time with the diet. It's not that I'm hungry all the time, but I'm a huge fan of the Food Network so I've been laying around all week watching that which is probably a bad mistake for someone just post-op! Any suggestions for this phase of eating? I'm told I can have a bit of scrambled eggs for breakfast and the mashed potatoes with low fat gravy for dinner and that sounds wonderful, however, the baby food thing just makes me sick thinking about it.

Thanks too everyone here that got me to this point!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hey sloopy, glad you hung on as CraigT implored way back when. Congratulations!!!
I know the thing with the Food Network...I'm a chef and of course I love it too. I made a point of not watching it after I realized what it was doing to my head that 1st month out or so. I did watch lots of HBO & Encore. Sounds like your in much better shape then I was after surgery. I stayed with family for the 1st 10 days or so I was so sore and needed help in and out of bed as well as sitting.
One of the things I loved during the 1st few weeks was cream of wheat with LF ricotta in the center. It was sort of like a ravioli thing in a different form. I would make it last 1/2 hour and feel satisfied in my head.
Sounds like your doing great. Keep in touch.

Arrow Sloopy!!!!

THIS is great...no pain after 8 days!! YOU beat me...it was 10day for me... ~ luck you!!!

OK...I'm with you...I don't think that Food Network is the best...the good thing is...at this stage, you KNOW without a doubt, that if you are feeling hungry - per say - it's head hunger.

One of my favorite things to eat at this stage was "Noodle-less Meat-less Lasanga" I know it sounds weird...and not so good...but OH! YUM!!!

I posted it early on...lemme see:
______________________________________

Noodleless Lasagna
layers of Pasta sauce, Low Fat Ricotta Cheese, & low fat Mozzerella cheese.

LAYER:
  • Pasta sauce
  • Ricotta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Ricotta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Sprinkle ricotta & mozzerella cheese on top layer
heat in the microwave oven and enjoy.

OH...you are gonna love this one!! WOW, it's sooo good it makes me want to make this again...maybe this time with some ground turkey...
I still don't eat pasta...I don't know when the "ok" is to eat it. I also don't eat rice...unless it is in rice pudding b/c it is fully expanded.
My favorite Rice pudding is :

KOZY SHACK by request - No Sugar added - RICE

Rice PUDDING!! it's only 90 cal. and 4g of protein.

Love it!!

Thanks, that sounds really good. I'll have to give that a try. I'm also having a hard time getting in the protein. I think I'm coming up at only about 40 or 45 grams a day. I've tried a bunch of protein drinks and just can't get them down. Ideas for this problem anyway? What are the affects of a lack of protein anyway? I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but I'm just too lazy to look it up right now

Thanks all,
sloopy

Lack of protein will get you tried for one, since not getting enough protein from the outside means your body is going to deplete the protein you have within you -- which means you are going to lose the muscles that keep you moving and help hold you up. Protein is the first thing you need to get in.
Have you tried getting protein powder and mixing it with something else like broth or the soft foods you can eat? I think it was Kat who mentioned mixiing protein powder with Gerber's peach (yeah, I know it's baby food, but not everything is neccessarily bad) while others mix protein shakes with ice and crush it with a blender to make a smoothie like drink.

Anway, it is very important to try to get in that 60-80g protein, and all your suppliments to keep you from feeling too tired.
Plenty of liquids, too, to keep you from dehydration.

Talking Yep...

....protein is important...
At your stage I did ISOPURE....it was ok...but, I go sick of it really really fast!!!
Now I'm drinking EAS - Advant Egde Carb control...Pre made shakes....
Try them you will LOVE them~~
I've bought them Walmart, CVS, or EKERD....

Lemme know what you think....
