Hi, my name is Brenda and I just had surgery on August 16, 2006. I went in for my three week checkup and have lost 24 lbs. Although this makes me happy, I have to admit the 'soft' diet is not that great.

I worry that I won't be able to get my psychological self in line where I don't always look at eating all the time. I love the taste of food. I hate to get sick and the feeling nauseous is not so great right now. I've already gone through a couple of "should I have really done this" moments.

I look forward to getting to know you all as the months go by.

Bren

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi Brenda, I too had surgery July 20th and sometimes still revert back to the blended diet. I will remember the cream of wheat....never ever thought I would love it, but I do...I eat lots of soups, seems easy to go down. But I am able to eat some fish, tuna, and trial and error. It does get easier.. Peggy

Thank you for the encouraging words. I'm headed over to read a couple of blogs. My bariatric coordinator said this last Thursday that I should limit my Cream of Wheat and try to get more protein in. I'm wondering how much protein each day I should be eating.....

The reccomended amount of protein for post ops is from 60-80 grams, some surgeons say even up to 120 g.
Most members on this board have been instructed by their surgeons to get in at least 60.
Be sure to speak to your surgeon and confirm.

Hi Brenda,
I'm 3+ mos. out. I think every thing your feeling is pretty much in line with your new way of life. It does get better. Getting the protein is my #1 priority with the vits. and calcium double first cousins.
My Dr. said to get 65 grams a protein and I just saw a calculator that goes by height and weight that suggested 79 grams. Hope this helps.

Thanks, at least that gives me some numbers to work with. I wasn't sure and I know when I went for my most recent visit that they said I needed to be getting more protein.

Thank you all, for the valuable information. It also really helps to know that the feelings that are ping ponging through my head are customary.

Welcome from another bren. Mine name is Brenda too! I had my surgery just on September 1st, and i'm feeling much the same way. I question myself why I did this to myself. I also have the sick feeling when it comes to eating. I'm ready to if I try to eat and also if I don't eat!
Anyway I keep telling myself it will all be worth it down the road. I just gotta start doing my protein shakes more faithfully.
Hope you enjoy the web site as much as I have.
