| am I losing too fast? I'm almost 5 month out post op....and currently am having a hard time to eat. I dislike eating solids, have no appetite...and still only love to eat soups. I still drink 2/3 of my proteins..(I know I've got to wean myself to eat) so far, I've lost almost 70 lbs. People ask me if I was sick. Perhaps I'm losing weight too fast. I don't see my nutritionist or doctors until January. I feel ok...but at this stage is it unusual to struggle to eat?

Sounds like your weight loss is good.
As for food, yes, you should be able to get in more regular foods. Maybe you have a mental block somewhere about regular food? You do need to train your pouch to accept regular foods especially if you've been on liquids and soft food for a long time. ((((((HUGS))))))

at 3 months, I was down 65 pounds....at 6 months, I was down 100!! I think it is important for you to introduce more solids...for digestive reasons alone...you need to get your system used to taking in "regular" food...in moderation, of course! Stick to the plan...protein 1st, veggies 2nd...limit carbs/fats....
Congrats on your success!!

I know what you mean...I am 5 months out and am forcing myself to accept solid proteins. You do have to wrap your mind around them and trial and error will tell you what you can tolerate. There are still some days that I rely on 2 protein shakes, but I have been experimenting with things like turkey burgers, cheese, chicken breast patties from Carl's Junior (wish I could find where to buy these so I can cook them myself at home). Also, refried beans with cheese on them, turkey chili, and black bean soup. I have lost 63 pounds so far, and work very hard to get in all of my protein and water, but I do it! The only thing I am lacking right now is veggies, since I am focusing so much on protein first, and then have no room for protein. I don't do any carbs except for grapes...those I have once a day. Try to get your protein in by forcing the foods rather than the shakes. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

gidget...watch the fast food chicken....you may want to check their website for nutrition content....I have found very little fast food that I will eat anymore after going to their websites and reading about the loaded sodium/fat/carb content....

Thanks for the warning, Kath. I, too, have been concerned about fast foods and have checked the nutritional facts on the website.. Carl's juniour grilled chicken breast is 130 cal., 1g fat, 0g carbs and 27 g protein. Your are so right, though that most of the fast food "healthy" choices are really not that healthy for us WLS people.

Chicken patties.... mmm....ground chicken, egg, whole wheat bread crumbs..spice it up with whatever. Pre made chicken patties are ..the chicken they dont sell mulched up with some gelatinous goo and some chemicals and salt..make your own man..its an adventure. You could make curried patties, jerk patties, regular ones..etc.
I dont understnad WHY we have to leave the shakes other than fiber. After the fight i had with food i used to resent having to put anything in my mouth at all to live. As a teen eating and crying at the same time was nasty... this is a welcome period .
