Smile Hi from Panama City

Hi, I am anxiously waiting for my insurance company to approve by gastric bypass. I should know in a few days. The waiting is killing me. If they approve, I should have it done the first week of January. For them to even consider it, I had to visit a psychiatrist, a cardiologist, a gastroenterologist, a nutritionist, an internist, a gynecologist (yes, believe it or not), a neumologist, and endocrinologist and finally the anesthesiologist (I am sure that I ran out of all the "ist" words in the dictionary!!!). All have reported to the insurance company that they approve of the surgery. My husband, my oldest son and my brother are completely against it. But my mom and dad are pretty supportive though scared. I tell them that I am not scared at all, but of course I am. I even drafted my will. I am terrified of 1) dying during the surgery; 2) going into a comma; 3) excruciating pain; 4) blood clogs; 5) vomiting; and 6) dumping syndrome, yet I still believe I should take the rist. At 5'6" and 232 I feel sick everyday of my life. Can't go on like this.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome ~ glad you joined us! I hope your DH will come around in time. It's hard to watch someone you love take what seems like such drastic measures, especially if they don't have a weight issue. Of course any surgery is a bit scary and there are never any guarantees, but when you've done your homework, and your headwork, you just know when it's right for you. As for the risks involved, most docs and hospitals have ways of preventing problems and helping you cope with discomforts.

At your size, I expect that while you won't be comfortable hopping out of bed, you will be up and at 'em (with appropriate pain control) which will aid in preventing blood clots and seem to help us heal, I guess by getting our blood flowing? You're a bit smaller than I was, and what I really hated!!!! was our wonderful phys therapy team making me get out of bed on my own one day post op!!! Might I suggest you learn to barrel roll now? By knowing how to do it and practicing you'll be ahead of the game Basically, lay on your back, then roll to a side position, maybe a tad forward, then use your arms to push yourself up enough to be able to sit up. It sounds silly I know, but after abdominal surgery it's good to have a few tricks up your sleeve.

Also, as for pain, most WLS patients seem to do really well with minimal meds. I had considerable pain, but had really good pain control therefore the experience was not that terrible, not fun but well worth it and, again, talk to your docs as they can tell you what to expect and what to do to minimize any discomfort.

I really haven't vomitted much and major dumping hasn't been a significant problem. Having said that, the fear of it is a good thing coz it helps keep you in line! Yeah, you'll find some things that'll give you a fit and it will take time to figure out what works and what doesn't; just take your time and go slow and you'll probably do fine. Again, I am thankful I dump sugar. It's a huge blessing for me coz I never could control it before. Mostly, my dumping is to go into what I call a carb coma which usually lasts about an hour during which time I can sleep sitting up, with my mouth open, and snorring. Pretty picture, right? see ~ dumping is good! LOL

Sorry this is so long ~ again, welcome! Dont be afraid to ask questions, maybe you'll see something that will help you get the rest of your family on board. Good luck!
