I've been reading emails sent to me by this site for some time now, and I have finally decided to post.
An introduction is appropriate, so..............
I'm a 59 year old woman who has basically been on the heavy side most of my life. I've have travelled those peaks and valleys like some of you, always ending up on a higher peak. Best friends of mine had the Rous En Y GB surgery long before I did and I just wouldn't listen. Then the light went on. Would I live to see 60? 65? 70? Probably not weighing in at 430 lbs. which was the hightest peak I ever reached in my life. I blamed it on the suffering I went through during my husband's illness then death, allowing food to comfort me, but in reality, it was probably killing me.
I decided to have the surgery (surgiversary April 19 (2007)) and am proud to say I have surpassed the doctor's goal and am now at mine .............. 188. And I might go a little lower. May sound like a lot but being 5'9", the doctor is quite happy and so am I.
A 242 lbs weight loss! I never thought I could do it. So I am here to encourage others. Do not be afraid to take the step. Looks like a great bunch here to go through it with you!
Good luck to you ........... and to the others, congratulations!!!
