There is a fairly ineffective support group about 30 miles NE of here we sometimes go to. Lately they've been somewhat ignorant in some of the things they've been discussing (mental health) and we've found it easy to "miss" the meetings. There were only 3-4 friends who would get together at Perkins for dinner, no speakers or expertise, just some experience. (Like the guy who wouldn't eat his protein and lost a whole lot of muscle mass and strength and his wife, the snacker, who's back on soda and other evils and has regained 120 pounds. Great examples!

)
30 miles due west of here, our psychiatrist's practice is working on putting together a real support group, with a therapist and everything. They just haven't started meeting yet (still waiting after 4 months.) 33 miles SE of here, there is a potential support group trying to hatch, but there's not a critical mass yet. I doubt that I could find enough folks here in our town (population 9,611) to do anything meaningful.
The nearest real support group is in the Minneapolis area, at least an hour and a half away. Most sane people around here don't volunteer for that kind of distance in the winter.
Sure am glad I found RR! You guys are more help than you know!! Thanks, everyone, for your willingness to share, and especially the determination to keep this a happy, loving family. The more I hear about other lists, the more I like ours.
