Hello All! I am 32, married and mother of 3 in Pennsylvania. I currently weigh 278lbs. I have been overweight my whole life. I'm considering having the surgery and so in the midst of doing some homework on the surgery, I found this site and figured it was a good place to start! I have seen alot of before and after photos that look absolutely WONDERFUL but I'm more interested in the road to get there. In '06 I tore two ligaments (MCL & ACL) in my left knee. They only repaired the MCL so with ACL gone, no running or aerobics aloud. This really got me to the realization I needed to get my weight off if I wanted to live a quality life with my husband and children. Then later in '06 I was diagnosed with Psuedotumor Cerebri. Pretty scary when the dr. tells you that you could lose your vision permanently or have a stroke. So okay...I can deal with that I know in my head what I need to do...but then find out pregnant. I had beautiful baby girl last February and afterwards was down to 250 only to put on 28 lbs within a month of no longer breastfeeding. So again...know what to do...but put off dieting. You know...all the excuses..resigned from job to be full time stay at home mom so can't afford gym membership or health food. I did walking when the weather was nice but for about a month now I've been dealing with plantar fascitis (sorry if spelled wrong). So pain in feet and well...just at the end of the rope and looking for alternatives. I ask for opinions and so many people are down right against it and see it as me being lazy. I'm not using this as a fix all but as a tool to get where I need to be to be alive and enjoy my family. I mean I have family members worried about me when I was pregnant and off Psuedotumor meds but I'm wrong to have bipass that could IMMENSELY improve my health. So basically any support and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I think joining this forum is a great thing and could really give me alot of insight to things each of you have experienced!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Mandy welcome aboard! I am 5 days away from surgery and know for me it's the best decision. It took me seeing my dad (who never was sick a day in his life before this) lay in the hospital bed after open heart surgery, wondering if he was gonna make it or not, to get me to go get myself checked out. I dont know how long I was a diabetic or had extremely high cholesterol but when I had my bloodwork done my Dr;s office called me to come in that day. That was an eye opening experience. It was make a choice of getting healthy or to lay in the same bed my dad was laying in. I chose to make sure I will do everything in my power to get healthy so my kids and my grandkids wont have to see me laying in that bed wondering if I will live or die. My dad made it through the heart surgery but is still on shakey grounds. He is having lung issues now. He is only going to be 67 this year. That is way to young to be having the problems he is having. It's sad to see this powerful man be so helpless. I am doing what I have to do to make sure my kids dont have go through this with me.....in the end it is a decison that only you can make. However this decision will effect everyone around you. Do lots of research and make the decision that is right for you and your loved ones. Good luck!

Well thank you to everyone who responded! I truly appreciate all your comments! I have been praying and asking for guidance in this decision! I guess the 1/200 death rate scares me more than anything but so does having a stroke and having no quality of life if I don't have it. I'm committed to doing what I need to do but feel I have never Truly put effort into dieting since so many I know have yoyo'd, gained it back and then some. I'm anxious to see once i meet with Nutritionalist how well I do. I am blessed to come across such a wonderful site with great wisdom and support!
