| I'm new
Hi, I am new to this site so not sure if I am doing this right. I am having WLS on 2-3-09 and am so ready. Always having been larger than I should turned into OMG...I'm huge. I am 49 and have 2 small children, my son is 5 and my daughter is 4...I want to be here for them and my husband for years to come. I am so looking forward to regaining my health. Any advice or thoughts you can share?
PamM

| It's just like other abdominal surgeries with soreness and needing lots of rest except your diet has changed drastically. They gave me lots of IV fluids in the hospital so your main job when you get home is to stay hydrated til your pouchy heals. Follow your docs instructions and we'll be here to help you thru the fun stuff

Right after in the hosptial you'll be medicated the first day or so and will sleep most of it. You will not be able to drink anything until they do the swollow test to see if there are any leaks. After that depending on your surgeon's orders you may start your liquid/protein diet. I really felt fine. I walked 8 -10 times a day in the hospital. My drive home was a little rough. The roads were very bumpy. I had a hard time sleeping in bed for about 10 nights after that I was fine. Others have had no problems. You may want to put pillows under your tummy to hold it in place. You are not hungrey but have to push the fluids, 1 oz every 15 minutes. During the pureed stage (3 weeks out) I wanted something crunchy but made it through.
Not going to tell you it is a piece of cake, it is a wild ride but worth every minute.
Perfessor's wife is having surgery soon and he has a great list of things to bring...hopefully he'll be on soon.

Welcome to this wonderful site and good luck on your upcoming surgery. Everyone seems to have a different experience after the surgery, but like clancy said, just follow your surgeon's advice to a T. No, it isn't taking the easy way out, and there is nothing easy about totally altering the lifestyle and eating habits you've become accustomed to, but it is soooooo worth it! You will feel so much better, and be able to participate in your children's lives so much more as well as teaching them good eating habits. We are here for you to support you and cheer you on! Ask any questions and do a lot of research before your surgery date. Good luck!
