| I am in big trouble, I have no answers
Third time typing and I am tired of crying and retyping this same stuff over and over again when some key is turning this page back.
Had Bypass November 2007
Working out I hurt my back and after an MRI learned that I have a ruptured disk between L4 and L5. It has been 3 months and my tolerance to percosets and flexerills has grown so I quit them. I have Tordol shots every three days. I have gained back 24lbs. I can barely walk without aggravating my back and siatic nerve in my right leg. I don't see the Neurologist until March. My Bariatric surgeons office has offered me no help when I have called and have told me to "save it" until my 1 year followup. This is next Thursday. I am scared. I feel worthless and unworthy of the moments when I was so close to the century club. Please someone, help me find the light at the end of the tunnel, there is one right?

Hey there sweetie. I'm sorry about the hell you've been through. Believe me I've been there. I haven't had the surgery yet but I have ruptured a disk in my back about 5 months ago and I feel your pain completely. You're literally a question mark that can hardly move. I'm sorry your surgeon has not been able to assist you towards your needs or advice in this current dilema. Heres my advice. First off, have you tried physical therapy? That's what I did for about two months and things got relatively better. Secondly, your main focus needs to be that you need to get better. Don't stress out or your recovery will extend to a longer period of time and you'll be in pain that much longer. Perhaps you can try working yourself back from scratch when you first had the surgery and work from there? Try to avoid the bad foods as much as possible. Realistically you need to take it easy. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better soon. Feel free to private message me if you'd like to talk sometime. Take care! ^_^

yoshi, I am so glad someone understands. I feel so mad at my Surgeon's staff I don't know how I am going to contain myself when I get there. It took them almost three weeks to answer my or my primary care dr's calls about what medications I could take for pain. Now I feel like a cash cow, that they were all nice and helpful until I had my surgery and since they got paid, they don't feel like they need to answer any more of my questions. I know he has another seminar coming up (it's over 5 hours to where his office is located from here) and it's in the hotel right in front of my office building. I want to go and see if his staff still feeds people the same crap. Okay, I probably wouldn't say anything about it but I want him to hear my complaints and somehow make it a point to improve upon his practice.

i cant blame you for being angry sweetie. It's a very frustrating situation and very painful. Definitely, come your seminar, I would give your surgeon an earful of how you've been treated and how you feel. It's ridiculous! It's funny how jerks like that can take advantage of people like us by being all nice and sweet so that they can get their hands on our money for the procedure and we don't matter anymore after the whole things over and done with. With the economy the way it is today, people can't afford to deal with this crap. But yeah when I rupture the disc in my back, it was the very last disc near my tailbone and it was excruciating and I could hardly stand it and cried constantly. I couldn't even lay in my own bed and get the proper sleep needed due to being in so much pain. My mom had to place a pillow under my lower back every single night for me because I wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise. You may want to try a heating pad for some comfort in the area that hurting you and as hard as it may seem, you have to try your best to stand up straight or the ruptured disc will only get worse in pain. ^_^

I forgot to mention that I was going to physical therapy but everytime I left there I was in more pain than when I started so I was restricted to just the electro stim with moist heat 1-2 times a week. That has helped and I have heating pads stashed at my office, in my car, at my home, in my husbands truck, at my parents house...and this amazing shiatzu/heat pillow massage-y thing. My husband lightly rubs my back some nights when the pain is excruciating and no amount of pillows help, I think just knowing he is there and he understands helps. He's retired military and when we have to deal with things like this it's like releasing the hounds. He barks up everyone's tree until someone gives us an answer that makes sense. With all of that, we still haven't gotten what we need.

You poor thing. It's great having a great man like that in our lives. My boyfriend gave me light massages too which felt good but of course there's certain nerves that are hit by just the lightest touch that it can hurt like the dickens. Seriusly though, I don't want you to stress about the weight. Just be sure to eat healthy and take it easy. The last thing you need is stress. You have enough to worry about with the pain you're experiencing. First things first and then when you're feeling better, start exercising again but not near as strenuous as you have before. Do a little at a time. No weight-lifting or anything too strenuous until you know you're feeling much better and don't notice any pain anymore. I hurt my back from bowling. I know it sounds silly but I'm a silly girl...what can i say?! LOL. Anyways I was restruicted from my doctor from any kind of lifting for a long time to make sure I healed completely and didn't risk hurting myself again. ^_^

I completely understand your pain on this one I have bulged disks between L4 and L5 and between L3 and L4 from a bad car accident. They wouldn't do surgery on me because they are not ruptured and because at the time of the accident, I was only 18. I would go to your surgeon's meeting and ask your questions. Let him know that this is unacceptable - especially since you are probably stuck with him. I see many who cannot see a different surgeon, as they do not take on patients that they did not operate on.
I wish I had some helpful trick for the pain until March, but it looks like you do everything I used to just to ease it what little you can. I hope everything works out. **hugs**

You are all awesome you know that? I was really freaking out before. Being harder on myself than I needed to be...even though it is all my fault that I am in this situation it wasn't like I was looking for something like this to happen. It's...a real journey. I'm glad I don't have to walk alone.
I'm building up the courage to really make my case to my surgeon and see if he is the man I came to believe he was-the whole reason I chose him wasn't just because of his track record. He really seemed to care and want the best for his patients. He was sympathetic but not overly so. I want to blame his office and I will be soooo disappointed if it really is him and/or a combination of them.
Was anyone prescribed something other than percosets for the pain? I've been google-ing this morning trying to find the right word combination to find out what other options there are for us other than shots. I read somewhere...and now I will have to go back and look...but I read that Tordol makes you gain weight. Now how the hell does that work? Something that makes the pain bearable makes you pack on lbs?
