Default Introducing myself - Drumhead

Hi,
My name is Mary and I am waiting for my surgery to be approved. I am 58 years old and have a beautiful 2 year old grandson that runs me ragged. I weigh 335 lbs and I can't wait to get started. I am very nervous about doing this and because it takes so long to happen, makes it worse.
I have too much time to think. I have a HMO and they take forever to approve small things, so this might take them awhile.
I used to accept how horrible I felt and the things I couldn't do because it was part of my life. Now that I know I'm going to have this procedure done, I can't stand myself. Maybe it's my minds way of preparing myself for this.
My biggest fear is failing. Lord knows I've failed at loosing weight many times and that is in the back of my mind. I used to work with a guy who was doing great after having bypass done. Then after a year and all he went through, he started gaining it back. I don't work with him any more but heard he gained it all back and more. I don't want to end up like him.
I can see all of you help each other and that's great. It's nice to have a place to go to ask questions when you're not sure about something. Or just to talk. It's also nice to know what to expect too. I will continue to read your posts and let you know when I get approved.
Can't wait to get one of those ticker tape thingys.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello! Mary, and welcome to the board...Hope your surgery approval will come shortly.....I noticed you are from Chicago, this is where I had my surgery done...@ the Universary of Illinois Hospital. Dr.Vitello, was the surgeon....
I came through it with flying colors and I'am sure you will do the same...Who is your surgeon? and what hospital?....Being nervous is normal...I, myself wasn't nervous or scared because I wanted and waited for this day to come...I was thrilled and excited.didn't give myself time to do anything else but, to think how it was going to change my life....I wish you the best and hoping to get to know you ....again welcome and congratzzz on becoming a loser soon,.....God Bless...((Hugs))

Welcome Mary. Glad you found all of us! I too had my surgery in Chicago by Dr. Fred Tiesinga. He did a wonderful job. Don't worry too much, hopefully your insurance will jump on this and have an approval for you quickly. Your fear of being a failure is very normal. I think I can speak for many of us when I say that we all have thought that way one time or another.

Do you know if they require a supervised diet prior to surgery?

Please keep us posted on your progress with insurance and if there is anything we can help you with, don't hesitate to ask.

Good Luck.

Default Thank you

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I think it's great having this site.
I know I will be here often asking questions and hopefully helping new people after I get started.
I am having my surgery at Central Dupage Hospital. I believe Dr. David Klem is the performing doc. If anyone is familiar with either, I'd love to hear. I have been asking around and I haven't heard anything bad so that's a good sign.
I have been waiting for my insurance to approve for a few weeks now. I was told this is normal. Especially with a HMO. I am going to call my PCP's office just to see how things are coming along.
I know I have to attend classes before I have the procedure. I'm assuming it's to start on a diet and exercise program. I know from other people they will teach me how to eat and what to eat and what to expect after I go home. I'll know more after I'm approved and can get in to see the surgeon.
Thank you all again. I look forward to a lot of new friendships.
