Good luck at the GB dr. I'm sure he/she will have a scale that weighs you correctly.

At a plant I once worked at, there was a competition for weight loss among the workers. The official weighing-in station was the freight scale by the shipping dock, because it would weight to the pound to at least 1000 pounds. In my wanderings through the plant, I'd often see someone sneak over there when she thought no one was watching and get on.

Hello and welcome. You sound very ready for your new journey. It's a wild ride but oh so worth it.
Hey Perfesser you talking about me?? I used to do this way back when I work as a forklift driver in Kansas. It wasn't because of weight issues then just curiousity. One day another co-worker seen me first weigh the load I had then step on it to figure out the difference (didn't want anyone seeing me weigh myself). Ha! I'll weigh in front of anyone now! Quote:

Same plant, but as I remember it, it was in northern Indiana. But I don't believe we're in Kansas any more, Toto!!

| GB Doctor Appointment Today
Ok... update....
I went to the GB Dr today and he says I am definately a good candidate for the surgery. All of my tests are done. Had to go have blood drawn to make sure I am not anemic. (Took them 3 tries to get it). The Dr now has to submit to the insuance company to make sure they will pay for it. I can have the surgery as soon as the middle of June, but will wait till school is done at the end of June. Oldest daughter is graduating and I dont want to have to miss that.
I finally got an accurate weight today. It is 376, so I updated it in my profile. That way I can track my progress accurately.
I am just really glad to know at this point that I am a candidate and I can get this done. Was starting to wonder if something was gonna prevent me from having the sugery.
I would like to know what everyone thinks is the best tasting protein shake out there. Want to start stocking up on them now, since I dont work over the summer and money is tighter then. Thanks for all your encouragement and support.

What you think is the best-tasting shake pre-op may taste like chalk post-op. Many here have found that it's a poor investment to stock up on favorites pre-op because their tastes come back so different.
As far as getting everyone to agree on the best shake, good luck with that!!

YAY almost there!
So many protein drinks out there. My favorites are the Syntrax Nectar's from Bariatric Advantage (check out the store on this site) and Whey Isolate from GNC. I like the Whey over the Soy. Perfesser is right your tastebuds are going to change. I couldn't do milk for about 3 months now I love it with the Chocolate Isolate. Yummy!
Lots of info in old posts...check them out. If you like coffee there are several flavors of them.....hummm I cannot think of the name right now. Sorry!
Holding a seat on the losers bench for you.

Brittsmom1994, welcome to the boards and on your decision to change your life. As you can see from my profile numbers I too can't get weighed on a "normal" scale. Was that way for a long time and will stay that way for a little while longer depending on my weight loss .
This is a great place for support and the tool you are about to get will make positive changes in your life. As far as the protein shakes, I can attest to the fact your taste buds will change, I know mine have, but as I've told other ppl the best way I've found to get my shake in is in coffee (decaf) with splenda and a little SF french vanilla creamer (I use a vanilla flavored shake from Walmart), but my personal goal from my 1 month surgical follow up was to chew all my protein. On a good day I can do but it's nice to know I can use it on the days I just don't want to eat so much.

Hi again everyone....
I got my insurance approval on Monday May 4. My Dr's office called and said that my iron was low so i needed to start taking an iron supplement to get it up. I have been trying "Gentle Iron", but still seem to be getting constipated. Any suggestions?
I have my surgery scheduled for June 29th, 2009. I could have done it earlier, but since I am off for the summer from my bus driving job, I couldn't see taking time off work. Will be starting the liver reduction diet on June 15, which happens to be my fathers birthday, gonna have to go out the day before with him.
Did any or all of you have people who were just so negative about your plans for surgery that you just wanted to punch them in the face? Some of my friends and family are so glad I am doing this, but others act like I am crazy. Of course my mother starts thinking the worst case senario....what will happen to my daughter if something happens to me? I feel like I have to stay away from her and all her negative comments.
Thanks for letting me vent, and I'm sure I will have more questions over the next few weeks.

There is no shortage of threads here about who you told, how they reacted, how relationships changed as a result of WLS, etc. My wife was negative until we both met with the surgeon, then she advanced to neutral. After watching what it did for me, she came all the way over and had her surgery 10 weeks ago.
I told no one else because I didn't want to hear all the horror stories. By the time I was at goal, it didn't matter any more and now I'll tell anyone who'll sit still long enough to bend their ear!!
Everyone's situation is different. Good luck!
