Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | First off Welcome, and glad you found the site. I am 2 weeks out today. I had my surgery 10/3. I had a Gastric bypass. This was laprascopic procedure and I have 6 insisions. One of which was for a drain. I have a very good tolerance for pain. Right after surgery I had pain, I felt like "what did i do" Then I was put on pain meds and the pain went from a 9 to a 6. Later that night it went from a 6 to a 4. It was tolerable and not the worse thing I had ever been through ( I never had surgery before) once my drain was removed the pain went from a 4 to a 2! I went home 1 day early. I was completely off pain meds by the 1 week mark. Please dont use my guide as how painful it is. Yes it was painful but tolerable. I am very happy I did this. I would not change it at all. Just remember everyone has a different pain threshold yours may be more or less then mine, but just remember the pain wont be forever, and most people are off pain meds by the end of week one, or soon after. Good Luck, and feel free to ask any questions that you have

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome to the RR Boards!! So glad you found us.....
During my recovery after WLS....I mainly slept in a recliner which was amazingly comfortable. My husband was incredibly supportive.....he got me thru and kept me off my feet except when I was doing my recommended "walking". One thing that really helped was having an alarm clock that kept me hydrated & proteined up....according to my doctors protocol. You can do it too....It's completely worth it...I will tell you that I was nervous about the pain....but, it was soooo worth it, and I pushed myself to focus on the future...not the present pain!!!

5' 6" Height: | It isn't much fun at the time of surgery or for a few weeks after...make that a month after, for me. Everyone seems to be different as far as how much discomfort they have. I would do it again too, without a doubt. It has changed my life. One must do as advised but if you stick to the schedule you Doc gives you, positive results happens like you've never thought possible. So far, so GREAT!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WELL MALBEL! I would do the surgery also over again in a flash. I am at a more difficult state post op...were i can eat more, foods are not as sensitive on the stomach and i trully have to work if i want to loose hard but I am totally happy and dont regret this surgery. THIS journey has allowed me to make some awesome new friends and gave me total health and my life back! I had my surgery june 1, 2005 and lost a total of 143 pounds. I had no complication immediately following surgery but did develop a bleeding ulcer a little over a year out that has been treated and healed by taking nexium. I am so happy from going from not fitting into 4x clothes well (meaning tops long enough to cover my huge gutt) to wearing size 8's and 10's, a size i can never remember wearing in my life ever. I figured with surgery I would be a 14 and look at me now. GOOD LUCK! and i look forward to getting to know your more thru your posts! Feel free to ask away any questions they are all imporatant to us and may your journy go well and uncomplicated.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome to the boards. I would do it again. I had my surgery on September 1st of this year so i'm almost 7 weeks out. I didn't take any pain meds once leaving the hospital and for the most part felt fine. You are sore for a little while but with walking you get over it. The decision to have the surgery has to be yours and yours alone. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'm rolling up on 2 months... one of the best decisions I've ever made (especially that I'm at 60 pounds down)... It is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as foods go. I don't mind not being able to eat, I just don't like not being able to eat at all. I'm on a lot of soups because I'm having problems keeping some solids down. It's not the easy way out... pills for the rest of your life... diet becomes protein oriented... lots of exercise... but it's all worth it. I can't handle pain at all (reason why I don't have any children), and I can tell you that it was livable (they do put you on pain meds) and the toughest thing about the actual surgery was the damn drain! Again... still alllllllllllllllllllllllll worth it!

Height: | Welcome to the boards, I would do this surgery again if I had to. I did experience some unpleasant times along the way so far, but I think that considering the level of success I have been able to acheive it is worth it. I am nearing my 100 lb loss mark and had my surgery on April 4th of this year. Best of luck sweetie in your decision and feel free to ask away. Janae |
