Hi all, i had surgery on April 30, 2009. When i did my barium study some of the fluid was going back up into my old stomach. they did so many xrays and followed the barium closely. apparently everything is ok now, but i still have my concerns. i am doing well otherwise, but i am hungry. not all the time but when im ready to have a meal, im not satisfied with soft food anymore- i dont know if this is psychological or really happening. ive tolerated everything ive eaten so far just fine. i know its too early to move on to regular foods and i wont until its time, but what is there now that i can eat that would satisfy me more? when i eat i do get full, and dont eat very much. just hoping that there are some more fulfilling ideas out there for me. ive tried: lowfat cheese, watermelon, tuna salad w/ fat free crackers, broiled flounder, scrambled egg, pickle- the hardest thing is breakfast id like something other than egg. is it too early for oatmeal? please let me know.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi,

I am not sure what is going on for you, as 8 days post op i wasn't at all hungry and could only tolerate 200mls of fluid at a time, never mind food of any kind , so I can't really give you too much advice, although I would personnally check with my surgeon especially as you had that trouble with the leakage into your old stomach, sounds a bit dodgy to me??? But I could be wrong so please check it out before taking my word for it...

hope you get sorted and your journey goes well..

*pulls out her food guide* Both oatmeal and cream of wheat were on the list for the 1-4 week food choices... again ask your Dr/nut if these are okay for you as every Dr is different. Personally I feel I should have bought stock in a dairy with as much cottage cheese I'm eating, but I've found it's the one thing that I can always eat.. even on the days pouch isn't liking ANYTHNG. :-)

welcome to this group! and congratulations on your surgery. so that we can get to know you a little more it would be great if you would fill in more information about yourself - go to "user CP".

hopefully your surgeon or nutritionist gave you a progressive schedule of when foods are to be added in. also, are you getting in your fluids? one thing i have noticed over this last year is that i will be hungry when i am not getting in all my fluids.

i just looked in my nutritional guide for after surgery and between one week and 10 days following surgery we were able to add cream of wheat, or blended oatmeal, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, yogurt (non-fat, sugar free - no fruit) blended soups, sugar free pudding, soft scrambled eggs).

if you have a major problem with hunger it would be a good idea to talk with your surgeon.

welcome ~

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.
(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

Due to the leakage you had, it might be better to let your surgeon know about the hunger feeling.

Part of the problem with weight loss surgery or diets in general for that matter is food is on your mind all of the time. It is not that you are hungry but you are planning what you can eat next, anticipating what you can eat next week, thinking about what you can't eat and how eating something might affect you.

Your mind is most likely what is hungry but not your pouch. You have had years of developing a habit of eating more each time you sat down for a meal and a snack so it is habit that is likely telling you that you want to have something more right now.

It sounds like you are craving for the emotionally concept of having food and not the physical need for food.

Try to distract yourself with new hobbies, or start getting out of the house at those times you previously would have a snack.

Make sure you are getting in all the water you need to drink, that will help and if necessary, try warm or hot water rather than cold.

Good luck.
