Default Newbie - 3 days post op

Hello everyone, this is my first post. Actually this is my first post ever. The process was pretty quick, from the time I decide to have the gastric bypass surgery the end of April to having my surgery this last friday 07-17. I am now 3 days post op and feeling okay. I feel better than yesterday and hope to feel better each day. I have a question - I have been having a problem with gagging. I am not nauseated, It's in my throat like I'm going to choke. I think it's just a side effect from the surgery, Has anyone had that problem after surgery? It's not all the time and I am controling it by drinking water, sucking on sugar free hard candy and eating jello to moisten my throat. I lost 11 eleven pounds before my surgery and I have lost 4 pounds since Friday. I am on my why...

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I would be real careful with that hard candy. If you should swallow it by accident you will be making a trip to the emergency room. I was told to stay away from gum and hard candy because if you should swallow it, it will not fit thru your opening of your pouch and cause lots of problems.

Ok is it there all the time? The gagging sensation? Are you taking any meds still from surgery like pain meds etc? Call your surgeon and tell them what is going on.

No, it's not there all the time and it's getting better. My throat gets dry and I start to cough and then gag. If I can catch it with water or jello or something in my mouth to moisten my throat it stops. I was thinking it had so do with the surgery and all the instrutments that they put down myr throat. I think I will call my doctor just to let them now what's going on. I worry about what the gagging can do to my healing tummy. I also put the hard candy away, I was being very careful but that is a risk I don't want to take. Thank you for the welcome greetings

Default Almost as new......I got mine the day before you.

No gagging here...my problem has been hiccups.

I haven't been using any hard candy but I find Crystal Light to be very effective in keeping my mouth moist, and it helps keep my fluid intake up.
