I was wondering with the holidays so close and I am not able to join my family in eating - What can I eat????????? My mental state right now is so messed up - I am feeling depressed because food is one sure thing I could share with my family and know I don't even have that!
Help!!

HI LORA!
first off welcome to the forums!
GLAD YOU FOUND US!
congratulations on being on the looseing side.
AS far as eating and were you will be with eating
is really based on your surgeons protocal for foods
and how he moves his patients up the food stages.
I find every surgeon to be different.
FOR ME if i had surgery by week 3 i was still on liquids
but milk based so thanksigiving right now would be difficult.
HOWEVER, by the weels 3 and 4 i was on pureed stages
and after the month part i was on regular foods slowly.
So by christmas you might be at this point. AGAIN
its all on your surgeons rules. ITS very important to
follow that. I know the holidays for me last year were
easy i just couldnt eat to much and my tool helped.
THIS year i worry of the picking and tasting here
and there!
ITs very normal to go thru a greiving stage for the lost
of your old friend food so things will be rought early out.
IT gets easy.
TRY this in your mind to help you:
"NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS"!!!!
might help get you thru the holidays.
GOOD LUCK keep in touch on the boards!
and feel free to ask away there are great
bunches of people here ready to help and
support you !!
welcome!

Welcome to the board, Lora, thank you for joining us.
Okay, for you, here's the personal input from CraigT, who hosts this site, on holiday eating. "Don't be a freakin' turkey." Hope this helps you.
((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

Welcome to the board. I sympathize with you having the surgery so close to the holiday season, but it really will work out for the best and be the best present you could give yourself this year. Like Lisa said already, you need to ask your surgeon about what stages he wants your diet and when. If you need ideas for different things to try on different stages, there are some really good ones hidden through the forums. Best of luck.

Thank you all for answering me I really appreciate it - well Thanksgiving I survived my husband did cook turkey which smelled and looked delicious but I had a little sweet potato and a little peanut squash and that satisfied me - I do want to be healthy and that is what is important - thanks again and happy holidays to all.

I am going back to work the Dec. 11th, 06 - it will be the start of my sixth week post-op - I still have some pain on my left side but sure not like it was - Boy that pain is no joke.

YES those first few days i did refer to that pain as it feeling like i was hit by a bus. BUT it did ease up rather quickly and i did ween myself off pain meds as well quickly. they made me feel worse
and takeing them were hard !
HOWs your liquids going? i found warm broth to be my favorite those first days on clear liquids

Hello! It was Easter soon after my surgery and I was on pureed foods then. My husband pureed some turkey and I mixed a dab of mayo in with it, and had 2 ounces of that and one ounce mashed potatoes and one ounce of pureed carrots. After being on liquids so long it was a feast!! Be sure to go with what your surgeon/dietician suggest and what agrees with your pouch! Good luck! Oh, and for the pain I got sent home with a bottle of hydrocodone liquid (elixer). It (and an ice pack) helped the pain, but man, did the elixer taste horrible! Take care.
