Default Vicodin/Norco - How long is too long?

Ok so my PCP put me on Vicodin. She stated to take as needed. My question is how addicting is this? How long can you take it before you should become worried? It's not that I have not taken it before but it was for a broken arm and other various surgeries. I only took them for about a week after each one. Then moving on to Tylenol for the pain that was left over. I am not a big pain pill taker, but this pain in my back/hips is stopping me from sleeping and today I had a hard time walking! Physical therapy starts on the 8th.

Side Note - I am doing the heat / ice thing. It helps a bit.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Curious because my brother had this same issue about 10 months post RNY. They gave him percocet for short term but they had a long term treatment plan in mind that was executed rather quickly. He had to have a series of shots in both hips (steriods) to lessen his pain over time. Are they planning any long term treatment?

Good luck!

I am 9 months post-op. The pain has been progressivly getting worse over the last two months. But today it has hit a new level. My PCP did some tests & xrays and found that I have Arthritis in my Spine. Today I called in because the Tylenol was not even taking edge off. It was if I had not even taken it. I have never taken pain killers over a long period so I am worried. Not that I am forseeing or even thinking of long term pain. But I am a planner and want to see what my options are. I have an appointment tomorrow and will discuss it with my PCP. Between now and then she sent in a rx for vicodin.

Having had long term pain from arthritis I was always concerned about this. My doctor told me that if you take meds. like that when you are really in pain that you will not get addicted to them. I still have some left from all my surgeries in the last year. ( 5 of them) after my knee surgery and weight loss and walking every day and doing my PT I don't have to take any of those narcotics any longer. I still have some pain some days, but Tylenol makes it bearable. I hope that you will be able to get some relief from the pain. Walking seems to help alot.

You will notice on the bottle they only give you so many and probally not any refills.

I will be suprised if they give you more than one refill if any.

I agree with Dixie. Honey weather changes such as new fronts rain etc will somtimes make the pain much worse. Arthritis is like that. Its horrible I know. I deal with it myself. The heat can make it worse to. Use it as you need it like they told you Ok.

Good luck with this. This med.......I dont see them letting you get hooked on it. They know how long to let you take it before they send you to pain management so they can watch you along.

Take your meds get relief and mabye tomorrow will be a better day. It might take a few days but right now your hurting and you need that relief.
