Default Newbie here...

Hello all!

My screen name is a little cheesy. In all of my other forums my name is LibbysMama, but I decided to define myself outside of being a Mother on this forum since my life is about to change HUGELY. Too, well, a butterfly IS befitting. I also have a gorgeous butterfly tattoo and when I hit the 150lb weight loss mark I'm going to get another butterfly tat, but I do digress. I am pre-surgery, pre-auth, but I have a surgery date for 1/12/07! I am scared, excited, elated, and terrified. I have contemplated writing if I die letters, but that's so morose that I don't know if I can do that.

On with the introduction...my name is Tina, but most folks call me T. I was horrified when I met with the surgeon to realize that I had eaten my weight up to 322. I had ankle reconstruction surgery in August, and while I knew I had gained weight I didn't think I had gained THAT much. At the end of June I was 297. I'm scared b/c I'm on the border for the BMI of lap RNY or open RNY. My surgeon's cut-off is 60 and my BMI is 60.

My surgeon stresses exercise exercise exercise. What do you all do and what did you do immediately post-op? How many of you got PG post-op and how long was it? My surgeon reccomends two years, but my eggs aren't getting any younger (I'm 36). The only time I concieved was when I had lost almost 100lbs 6 years ago.

Thanks for having me!

~T.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

hi T!!!
Welcome to the boards
and im glad you found us and opened up.
GOT alot on your mind so let me first offer
you a great big (((HUG))) and tell you take
a deep breath and relax!!!!
I think its awesome you have a surgery date!!
CONGRATULATIONS on that. I imagine your very
confident with your surgeon and should relax some
with your choice. I know for me, the risks for me at the
age of 43 and 310 lbs out weighed the risks for surgery.
I was a stroke or heart attack just waiting to happen at that
large size. SO for me I had to do this and it was truly my
last resort to turn my life around .

AS for getting PG ( i believe you mean pregnant post op). Well many
surgeons put that waiting period on patients so that they do not loose
the window of opportunity to loose weight by a pregnancy. SO they
do suggest any where from 18 months to 2 years. YOU dont want to have a major set back in acheiving your weight loss goals because
you got pregnant sooner. Be careful because we are very fertile during the rapid weight loss stages of this journey and i have seen it happen
to many.

ANYWAY yes excersise is important. EARLY out i was only cleared for walking then increased things during my journey to a gym and now im useing a home gazelle for workouts. I know i need that now to help maintain what i have lost so its important. THIS surgery is only a tool
to help alot will still rely on good choices and excerise but a little further out these things matter more.

LOOK forward T to supporting you along your journey!
PULL up a chair and start reading there are many awesome
posts that will help you along your journey and bunches and bunches
of really great people!
good luck
lisa

Forgot to add....please send up P&PT for fast approval. I've been in close contact w/my ins. company since June and I've done all of my pre-auth stuff (the pysch eval, the nutritionist, et al) and it really looks like there's no reason I wont' be approved. Thanks for the welcome Lisa! I look forward to becoming a part of this board!

Is there anyone out there that had a BMI as high as mine? Looking around it's discouraging to see folks that need to lose "only" a 100lbs or so. I certainly don't mean to diminish your need for surgery or your hard work, but when the surgeon's nurse (who btw was significantly obese herself ??) told me I was 176lbs overweight it made me cry). I want to lose 150.

MY BMI at the beginning of my journey was 58....

i lost 143 lbs i was pretty up there. MY highest weight was 310 lbs when i was weighed in the first visit at my surgeons office.
I know my surgeon is a big believer in pre op weight loss and for the safety of me for the surgery required i lost 10 percent of my weight
which wasnt easy but i did it. I know if he didnt pose that on me i would have easily put on another 20 lbs during my approval stages getting into that last supper syndrome!
SO im thankful for how my surgeon had me loose weight pre op. HE feels it truly reduces complications!

GOOD LUCK!

Talking Hey There...

T.!!!
Great to meet you!!
I'm so excited for you....and wow, your surgery date is creeping up right around the corner! WOW!!

My BMI was 52.8...but my weight was 333.8#!! I too was shocked when I saw that weight! I was told that I was 198# overweight....my goal weight is 150lbs....that would have me loosing 183#'s!
I'm 38, & just over 7 mos post op....and have lost 115#....I'm amazed at how great I feel and I am 14/16 on top and a solid 18 on bottom! WOW, this is amazing b/c I was a 30-32 both tops and bottoms pre op. I'm married & have one daughter who is 3yrs. I'm sure you'll see me putting a pic or two of her...I'm a picture hound!

ANYWAY....Since my surgery the most exercise I've done is walking...I did a lot of walking right after surgery...we had a treadmill then...(we lived in TX but was in the middle of a big move to NYC.) now, I just walk everywhere...b/c we sold our car. Other than that, I don't do any additional exercise - but my weightloss has slowed considerably...so I'm looking into some exercise options for my home!

I was told to wait two years about getting PG too!~ So that seems accurate....but I've "heard" that you are much more fertile...so you better be careful - regardless of your weight. Don't think you are safe just b/c that is your old experience - OK?

Can't wait to get to know you better and celebrate "*YOU*" on your journey!!

Welcome TINA!!!

HEY TINA no need to thank me for my replies to things.
ITS seems unusually quiet on the board this week....i think
everyone is busy getting holiday affairs in order.

Feel free to ask any question and feel free to create new threads
when ever you want too! We love to chit chat around here and sometimes
we do get off topic! but may new friendships have developed on the boards!
