| Help me make a list?
I meet my surgeon in 2 weeks, and I would like some suggestions of questions that I should ask him.
I know my first question is going to be " How many of these surgeries have you done?"
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Lauri

Then ask him what is his record, how successful have his patients been (average as a percent of Excess Weight Lost (EWL)), and what complications has he experienced and how many (including death).
If he won't discuss this, ask him why and if you aren't happy with his response, FLEE!!

Of course, those are the most important questions. I would also ask him to show you how the surgery works and explain what happens to your body. I would also ask if he works in conjunction with a nutritionist that specializes in bariatric circumstances.

Ask him what a good goal would be for you.
Ask him how long hes done this procedure and how many problems hes had with them.
If he recommends any support groups local that any of his patients attend.
Does the nut he sends you to know anything much about GBS patients?

Is he associated with a Bariatric Center of Excellence? If not, find one who is. Yes, it's that important! CoE designation means that the American Bariatric Society (or whatever their governing body is called) thinks this guy really knows his stuff. It's the gold standard. And don't you deserve the best?

CT | I am pretty sure he is. I have an HMO Group Health Cooperative I am not allowed to "shop around" there are 2 Center of excellence surgeons that they use. I will meet the other one thursday when i go to the support group meeting.

you need to make a list of questions, even the ones that sound "stupid"
The surgeon is the one that;s going to rerout your inerds, so get well acquainted & comfortable.

Ask about his surgery mortality rate.
Ask if he's willing to work as a team member with you and your PCP.
