| Confused I have been debating wether or not to get the RNY surgury? I am confused with the diet after words and honestly just a little scared. If someone could give me some feed back about how it's going for you and some info on the whole thing I would truely appreciate it.

Welcome to the board. What doc said is exactly what you should be doing. I would also add to research the Mayo and WebMD sits for empirical information. Knowledge is power. From reading posts & talking with many folks who have had WLS I see a common thread of scared/anxious at some point prior to WLS. That's normal.

Yes knowledge is power. Its what every one needs to do before undertaking this surgery. Reseach it ask questions anything. Im acutally 2 years out today! I would do it again. It saved my life. If you could fill out a little about your self under the height and weight section it will give us a little heads up on how to help you more.
You know you have heard the no its not a diet its a lifestyle change? That is very true but very do able. Good look on finding all the anwsers you seek. DOC give you some good links use them and Decker also did. Welcome to the boards! Im Vickie

I'm 21 months post-op, and my wife is 6. We eat a normal diet (define "normal") of healthy food in small amounts sufficient to keep us chugging along smoothly. If your diet to this point has been white carbs, sugars, sodas and assorted other empty calories, this will be a major change in the way you eat. A major change for the better, I might add!! It is a satisfyingly sustainable way of eating. IT IS NOT A DIET!!! It is forever!
Contemplating having someone pull your innards out and slice and dice what's left in should give you a few moments of concern. That is completely normal. Most folks think that that's the hardest part of WLS. It isn't. The surgery is only a tool. How skilfully you use the gift it gives you is much tougher.
Living healthy and making good choices while resisting those old comfort foods that slid down so easy all those years is the hard part. Anyone who tries to tell you that this is some sort of "easy way" or "cheating" is either dangerously ignorant or selling some sort of magic weight loss pill.
There is no easy way. The surgery is permanent. Doing this right will require a conscious effort from now 'til they close the lid on you. It will require consistent self-discipline. This is not for everyone!! It's only for those who are sick and tired of being sick and tired, who don't travel because they hate asking for a seat belt extender and can't fit in the seats anyway, who drive their kids three blocks to the park and then watch them play because they can't walk those three blocks, much less chase a Frisbee. It's only for folks who are fed up with sitting on the sidelines watching everyone go by laughing and enjoying life. It is only for folks who have more reason to live than die, and want to add a few good years to their life.
My doctor told me "lose weight or die". I chose to live. The opportunities that losing 40% of yourself open up are beyond your imagination. Spend a little time in the WOW forum and see if you come away with dry eyes.
This is real. It's also real hard. It is ALSO really, really worth doing!! Look at the top of this page just under the left set of pictures. Members of this list have lost over 63 tons (that's TONS!!) of blubber by doing this. And that is only the tip of the iceberg! The rest of the benefits are even better!!!
Do your research, consult your family, your doctor and your soul, and make a wise, informed decision. We're here to help along the way.

CT couldn't have said it any clearer. I also was told to lose weight or probably die at an early age. I have had a few problems since surgery but I have a great surgeon and she has dealt with these small problems with great results. This is the best thing I have done for my health and the only thing that I wish I had done was do it at a much younger stage in my life. I am able to wear normal size clothes, go to functions and sit in normal sized seats and not worry about fitting into them, am also off all meds!! No more prescriptions!! My life is finally getting to a normal stage and would urge you to find a good surgeon and have the surgery. The diet sounds scary but it is real easy after you do some research on it and do what your surgeon tells you to do. It will all fall into place and you will feel great!! Good luck.
