Default New to the site and process!!!!

Hi all! My name is Kate and I am new to this site. I am really excited to have found you all (c: I am in need of some serious encouragement and help in making my upcoming decisions. I have just started the process of trying to get gastric bypass and it is a long and frustrating experience as you all know. I am a 26 year old mom of a 2 year old, i am getting my masters in mental health counseling. I have struggled with my weight on and off only able to keep it off with dangerous amounts of dieting and excercise. I am hoping i get approved for this surgery and i can just get it done QUICK!!!!!!!!! Anyways, hope to hear from all of you soon! I am trying to figure out the site...any suggestions?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

HI KATE!!!
welcome to the boards!!!! I am so glad you found a place to come for support and ask questions. IT helps.

ITs a tuff journey.. and its great to be surrounded by folks that have gone thru it and will be going thru it too!!! FOR me i battled with my weight all my life....i have lost weight dozens of times just to regain it back plus new wieght.

I finally hit my highest weight of 310 lbs and was so miserable. I was in very declineing health...worried i was a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen. I have to say this outweighed the risks of the surgery for me.
I dove into the process and worked my butt off hard to get thru all my pre op clearance appointments and loose the required pre op weight my surgeon required.
I barely looked back and just worked hard to make this happen. I had my surgery june 1 2005, lost 143 lbs in the first year. I am healthy and happy at the size I am now...sure 10 lbs more would be great but i just dont think its gonna happen.

As far as learning the site.... you will get the hang of it!!! this link will help you i am sure:

GOOD luck and i look forward to getting to know you thru all your posts!

Welcome to this site!! It was such a wonderful discovery for me. I spent a lot of time just clicking on practically everything and reading reading reading! When I had trouble there was always someone willing to help. What are your requirements before surgery? I had to do monthly nutritionist/dietician appointments for six months and have a pysch. evaluation to meet the insurance requirments. But the time flew by faster than I thought it would! I wish you luck and success!

Default Welcome Karma!

I am glad you chose this site to help you out with the decisions of the future. KEEP PLUGGIN ALONG. For me, to be honest, the decision to have the surgery was not an easy one, but one I do not regret one bit. Their are soooooooo many positive things that happen in your life after having the surgery, it would take me a lifetime to mention. As long as you do what your dr. says after the surgery, you will do fine. Of course, having all of these fine people helping you along your journey doesn't hurt either. KEEP US ALL POSTED. We are all here for you.

Welcome! I'm a newbie too! The site is chock full of wonderful things, and like Sheila Mae I have spent time just reading reading reading reading. Chances are if you have a question it's been answered already! Everyone here is so dang friendly! You'll like it here! My reccomendation would be to start with what your insurance requires and go from there. HTH, and welcome!

Welcome to the board. I just found this site a few days ago myself, although I am now almost 8 mos post-op. Like Mike said, this was a tough decision for me, and I spent many hours and days agonizing over it. However, sitting where I am now and looking back, I am so happy that I make this choice. I wish you all the best in your pursuit, and know that there are many here who have gone down that road before you who are more than happy to answer questions or share their experiences. I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Jerry

Default Wow!

Thank you so much for all your replies, support and stories! I have officially started the road to surgery. I have talked to my insurance company, got my pcp on board and talked to a bariatric surgeon. I have an info session next week and i am taking it from there. I think i have to meet with a dietician and a psychologist but i have already been on a physicians weight loss plan so i believe i should be able to get the surgery soon. I am so excited i can barely sleep! I do want to know if any of you have had adverse reactions, what they are and if they were worth it? By adverse reactions i mean nausea (for how long), vomiting, etc. Thanks for your help!
